We call it the domino effect. And the mental load isn’t just the pumping. It’s the packing, the checking, the cleaning, the counting of parts, the what-ifs, every single day.

One small plastic piece shouldn’t knock over your entire day. That’s the tipping point we’re obsessed with removing.

I spent a LONGGGG time thinking I just needed to get better at handling everything. 🫠

Be more organized, split things more evenly, say no more often, somehow become the kind of person who could have a big career, be a great mom and wife, take care of herself, maintain friendships, run a house, and never feel like something was slipping.

Spoiler alert: I burnt out / crashed out / regret it immensely. 😅

And I learned (the hard way) that you can optimize the hell out of your life and STILL have more responsibility than you have capacity for.

We talk all the time about the glass ceiling. But what about the support ceiling?

Because I think way too many women hit that point and assume it means they’re failing, when really the support underneath their life just hasn’t grown with everything else.

I don’t want my daughter growing up believing she can “have it all” as long as she’s willing to do it all herself.

(Cue burnout, autoimmune disorders, depression, and chronic-disappointment…)

I want asking for help, building a village, delegating, outsourcing, leaning on people, and letting someone else help OWN things to feel completely normal.

Your support system should be allowed to grow right alongside your ambition, your family, your career, and whatever else matters to you.

Our founder Patrice has explained pumping at work this way for years: haul your coffee maker, beans and filter to the office in a duffle bag, brew in a closet, wash all the parts, repeat two or three more times, then carry it all home in a cooler. Even in the best setups, that’s the reality for most working moms who pump.

Coffee is optional. Feeding your baby isn’t. Moms have been navigating these logistics for years, but it shouldn’t be so d*mn hard. Comment a 🩷 if you agree!

Back But Different. 💜

We started this campaign to tell the story of a return that rarely gets talked about: going back to work after maternity leave. What we found was more layered, more complex, and more powerful than the world gives mothers credit for.

To Lily and Caroline: thank you for letting us into your homes, your fittings, and the honest middle of your return. You said the hard parts out loud so other moms could feel a little less alone.

To everyone who filled in “I’m back and ___, but also ___”: thank you for trusting us with both sides. Every answer reminded us why this mattered.

I really thought September was going to be easier. And for three and a half weeks it actually was... and then our childcare fell apart 6000 miles from home.

September gave us our normal back. We saw our friends, said yes to things, spent real time with family, and made real progress on our expansion plans for @mntstudio and our new home. Plus @roamcollectiveabroad was in deep enrollment season and we sold out!

And then on our third night in Barcelona, our au pair of a week and a half quit on the spot, and the one system our entire fall was built on was gone.

What I keep coming back to is this: systems don’t exist so that nothing falls apart. They exist so that when something does, you know exactly what to rebuild first. We’re rebuilding 🫠
