Me and Reece tried the #LipReadThis challenge! 😃🎧

It really opened our eyes to how important clear communication is for deaf people and people with hearing loss 💛

As it’s Deaf Awareness Week, it’s a reminder that small changes can make such a big difference 🫶

Face people when speaking, don’t cover your mouth and have a little patience, it really does matter 💛

As an animal assisted therapy practitioner, it will never stop being heartwarming meeting people from all walks of life and connecting through the quiet joy of animals 🤍

Whether someone is neurotypical or neurospicy like me 🤍, deaf or blind, living with complex needs, in schools, care homes, or at end of life, animals have this incredible way of meeting people exactly where they are, without expectation and without barriers.

Yesterday, we were invited to the Hull Deaf Centre for their Happy Hands event with Furry Friends Animal Therapy, and it was just beautiful. Such a warm welcome, and such gentle, respectful interactions with every single animal.

Moments like these really highlight how important communication is in all its forms. BSL is such a beautiful, vital language, and it truly feels like something that should never be optional. Communication should be accessible for everyone.

Muffin did amazingly too, quietly observing, learning, and even saying a soft little hello from a distance as part of his desensitisation journey, with his favourite treat of course 🐾

A few months ago, Eliza asked if we could learn BSL together. So we did. Slowly, daily, following her curiosity through videos, little signs, lots of laughter, and those “did we just say that right?” moments 🥹

That’s the beauty of home education. The freedom to follow what matters, to nurture interests that become something meaningful, and to give our children the best possible start in connecting with the world around them.

So grateful for days like this. We cannot wait to come back, and hopefully continue our BSL journey in person too 🌿

Inclusivity always 🤍

Happy Sign Language Week 🤟✨

Learning sign language is a way to connect, include, and show that communication should be for everyone. A little effort can make a big difference in supporting the deaf community ☺️💛

I am so excited to tell you all that I have passed level 2 British Sign Language!

We had a fantastic evening celebrating everyone's success at passing their Level 1, 2 or 3 and it's amazing to see BSL being used more and more which is helping to break down barriers.
Inclusiveness definitely matters!

BaSiL Bear wore his new cap and gown and had selfies taken with lots of people!

@webbbsl2022 host lots of British Sign Language classes in Hull and surrounding areas from introductory classes to accredited courses.
I highly recommend them. David, Gemma and Fiona are amazing teachers.

There's always a buzz of excitement in the air when the bears find their forever homes, although I am a little sad to see them leave.
Here, you can see Lucy Bear and Rizzo wishing each other a fond farewell before they left to meet their new forever families.

This is Fiona💛 An incredible client and a huge inspiration for me! She’s been such a big part of my journey with British Sign Language (BSL)—she even assisted with the @webbbsl2022 Level 1 course I attended last year.

I’m currently learning BSL Level 2. Connecting with clients like Fiona has been such a joy, and I’d love to welcome more clients into my chair who communicate through BSL. My goal is to create an inclusive space where communication is never a barrier and where everyone feels truly understood and valued.

If you or someone you know is part of the deaf community and looking for a hairstylist, I’d love to meet you and practice my BSL skills along the way!

As many of you know, my daughter, Lauren, and I are currently studying for level 2 BSL.
We have 2 fantastic teachers, David and Gemma, and when Lauren asked me to make a teddy for them just like Lincolns teddy, I couldn't resist!
He has 2 removable hearing aids and a very cute t-shirt printed by Katie over at @kashtondesigns

Huge thanks to @webbbsl2022 for creating such an amazing video! I'm so happy you love Basil Bear. I hope he brings much happiness.
