“A little grotesque but also sexy.” 👀

That’s how @wee.nuls (Nuala Convery) described the four-eyed female characters she was painting when she created Gremlin.

It was one of her early commissions, painted in 2019 or 2020 after the Ulster Sports Club gave her free rein on this Belfast wall.

We photographed it in 2022.

When we found Nuala and shared the photo with her, she told us it was mad seeing how much her style had evolved. She’s since painted the same alley again.

We’ve spent more than 20 years stopping for walls like this. Now we’re finding the artists and the stories behind them.

On a rainy Sunday we set out to Divis and the Black Mountain with little hand made sketch books and pencils!

We recorded what we saw and what emotions we felt as we were led by one of the knowledgeable National Trust Rangers, who pointed out all the plants, birds and creatures.

This walk was followed by a street art workshop hosted by the wonderful @wee.nuls 🫶

The juggle of breastfeeding captured so well on a Dublin Wall.
Hearing artist Nuala Convery share her personal experience behind her mural, alongside Cllr. Claire Byrne deputising for the Lord Mayor and speaking about her own experiences was really powerful.
We need more conversations about breastfeeding, the joys the challenges and the reality of trying to juggle it all.
This art is a brilliant conversation starter, helping to make breastfeeding more visible and supported in our city.
Well done to everyone involved 👏

HARDWARE x PLAIN SAILING MANDELA HALL OCTOBER 10th

We teamed up with @nightstaff_ to create an ode to a venue that was so formative for us and many others during a crucial time in Belfast’s electronic music history.

October 10th marks our first ever event in Mandela Hall, and it feels like a real full circle moment.

Many thanks to everyone that contributing voice notes and photos/videos for the project. It was amazing to hear everyone’s memories and experiences, and we can’t wait to make more this Saturday.

Thanks to @yeomagazine for collaborating on this post.

I never looked this bad ass feeding….but I did feel it. Feeding my 3 children is something I cherish & despite some of the challenges or maybe because of them it instilled a quiet confidence in me as I learned to be a mother. #HappyNational BreastfeedingWeek2026

Baddies Breastfeed!

BFLGI were delighted to see the long awaited vision of our member Dr. Alan O’Reilly & the absolutely incredible talent that is Nuala Convery realised today, launched by Deputy Lord Mayor Claire Byrne who has supported this from day 1 with funding and planning permission support from Dublin City Council. @dralanoreilly @wee.nuls @cbyrnegreen

This is some the story & intention for Baddies Breastfeed (due to limitations full story will be edited into Facebook post): ‘The idea for the Baddies Breastfeed mural began with a meeting of minds at the 2024 breastfeeding conference at Queen’s University Belfast, The Future of Breastfeeding on the Island of Ireland. One of the speakers at the conference, Dr Nigel Rollins, spoke about the global impact of commercial milk formula advertising on breastfeeding rates. He highlighted the enormous scale of investment by the formula industry, estimated at between $2.5 and $3.5 billion annually, and the increasingly sophisticated ways in which marketing is targeted at consumers online — particularly young, first-time mothers.
Later at the conference, Nuala Convery spoke openly about her own experience as a self-employed first-time mother. She described the challenges she faced, including her experience of breastfeeding and the lack of support she encountered along the way. Nuala also spoke about a mural she had created in Belfast to raise awareness of the availability of free sanitary products for women in Northern Ireland.
I later approached Nuala about the possibility of creating a mural in Dublin that could promote breastfeeding in a way that felt completely different from traditional health messaging. The aim was to create something bold, contemporary and culturally relevant — something that could speak directly to a younger generation of mothers.

At its heart, the project is about creating a village of support.’
