Tactile and spare. Warm as ochre. The Serena Gown by @lola.varma arrives less as a gown and more as an accumulation. Of process, of place, of two Fitzroy studios in close, ongoing conversation with each other and with the land.

Weft Textiles’ research-led approach to natural dyeing, met by Courtney Illfield’s enduring commitment to Australian-made craftsmanship. An exercise in trusting the fabric, allowing silk to skim and settle like a second skin – made slowly, locally, and entirely by hand in Melbourne.

From slow experiments, stained fingertips and many many trials, Serena Gown has arrived. Created alongside the beautiful mind of Samia from Weft Textiles. Layers of silk washed in warm eucalyptus tones. A meeting of two worlds grounded in process, patience and a shared love for pieces that feel deeply alive. 🤎 Could not be more proud of the outcome.

A tone I keep returning to — golden, bronzed, sun-steeped.
It’s followed me quietly through spaces and seasons… in architecture, my personal home renovation, in worn leather, in the warmth of food, in the way light settles on fabric.

There’s something grounding in it. Earthy, but luminous. Familiar, yet impossible to ignore.

Lately, it’s taken form. ✨

In collaboration with WEFT Textiles, we’ve been exploring this shade through plant-based dye — letting nature lead, letting time soften and deepen the colour. The result is a gown that feels lived-in, sun-touched… almost as if it’s always existed this way.

We are so excited to share this piece with you all, very soon.

A look back at Clockwork for every*where 2025, Adelaide’s inaugural Design Week - celebrated in August this year.

SODA hosted 30 local designers and artists across three curated spaces, welcoming over 450 people to the opening night and exponentially more over the full five days. The broad spectrum of work represented Adelaide designers’ deep understanding of current aesthetics and a vision of what we can expect in the coming years.

It was a true honour to represent with such trust and look forward to a naturally evolved design week in 2026.

Our hand dyed bed spread designed for @every_where_adl reimagines domestic textiles as artefacts of time, wear, and care.

Crafted from hand-dyed, loom woven, heavy weight cotton with motted, irregular dot patterns, each piece of fabric carries a deliberate patina, evoking the traces of use and memory.

Variations in tone are achieved through controlled, non-uniform dyeing processes, creating surfaces that feel both aged and alive.

Designed and fabricated in Australia, the works embody Weft Textiles’ commitment to circular design, local craftsmanship, and material longevity.
