Today, Kantha and Ikkat meet over a lunch date.
Colorful birds, flowers, and leaves gently converse with geometric patterns.
For this special meeting of hand embroidery and hand-woven fabric, I chose to drape the saree in a cowl-neck style, while a snug jacket keeps me warm—where craft, comfort, and color come together.

Kantha, rooted in Bengal, tells stories through running stitches layered with memories, while Ikkat—practised across Odisha, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh—celebrates precision and rhythm through resist-dyed geometry. Together, they honour India’s rich textile heritage and the hands that keep it alive.”
