This week 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully my breast cancer diagnosis didn’t automatically mean the end of my life, and not a day goes by where I’m not grateful that I have been given the opportunity to see a future that at one point, I wasn’t sure I’d experience.

I’m equally grateful for the incredible advancements in cancer research and treatment that continue to give people like myself hope, and the possibility of more time with the people we love.

That’s why I’m proud to be supporting The @royalmarsden Cancer Charity’s ‘For the Future’ campaign. 🧡

Much like the contents of the time capsule I’ve created with my family, the research and innovation taking place today represent something much greater: hope for the future.

while advocating, fundraising, + spreading awareness are huge parts of breast cancer awareness month, this year I also wanted to focus on Victoria the human + remind myself that I’m far more than my diagnosis.

I started this series on ✨the other app✨ because if you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know that I left my corporate job last year as a social media manager to take part in a world premiere play last fall. while I wouldn’t change a thing about that, I will say the year following has been one of the toughest yet financially which…also very much has affected my mental health this year aka why y’all saw me posting so much about depression in the early months of the year.

so we (I) decided to make the best with what I’ve got to spark joy + create in a way that has nothing at all to do with the fact that I experienced breast cancer. I’ve always loved fashion, thrifting, + upcycling, + this series allows me to express that while also (as in this particular video 👀) continue to spread awareness + education + simply share what my everyday looks like as someone who is an actor, a social media manager, a breast cancer survivor + patient advocate, + a lover of fashion in the beginning stages of her freelance era.

This month @wegettouchyfeely have worked on this amazing campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🧡🧡🧡

An NHS invitation letter can trigger a lot of mixed emotions.

Fear of the unknown, language barriers, cultural stigmas, complex medical jargon, or simply feeling like life is too busy to prioritize yourself these are all real obstacles that keep many from attending their screening. Almost 3 in 10 women invited for NHS breast screening in England do not take up the offer.

That’s why we’ve partnered with North East London Cancer Alliance to remind you: an invitation isn't just an appointment attending can save your life.

For your loved ones, your family, and most importantly for yourself please don't put off that letter. If you’ve received an invitation, make time for your screening.

Busy day out reppin’ my multiple hats ⭐️.

First presenting in Cambridge to the East of England head and neck cancer specific group on the development of our late effects clinic @msehospitals - wasn’t able to ignore my imposter syndrome today before, during and after this talk. Lots of hard work over the last 10 months while commuting 6+ hours a day, moving house, navigating and new trust that is still adapting to a large merger, trying to co-produce a new service in a tough NHS landscape and hopefully prove my worth through my passion for wanting to help people live with and beyond cancer. Therapeutic radiographers like me are in a unique position as not only can we help to treat and manage the psycho-social and physical side effects of treatment but our dedicated degree in radiotherapy and oncology gives us insights to radiobiology and radiation dosimetry that other professions don’t have. Grateful for the support of fellow radiographers in the room and also to the ‘legends’ @emshallam and @just_sabs who have paved the way for me to be able to lead this new service ❤️.

Then to Croydon, back to near where I went to school after moving here from India in the 90s, to watch another incredible @barbershopuncutstories with incredible panelist’s, I was more moved than usual when hearing the real life stories that were shared today perhaps because it’s the beginning of black history month, but also the power of community led projects that actually represent people from the global majority✊🏽.

I am always very grateful for these opportunities to share my own lived experiences, knowledge and expertise, and also hear from inspiring people, so thank you to the universe 🙏🏽.

chat, how we doing? 👀

it’s the first day of breast cancer awareness month + so many emotions come up during this time—I’m grateful all eyes are on our community, but I also know not all support is truly beneficial + sometimes can cause more harm than good.

my advice:
💕 know where your dollars are going, so many companies utilize pinkwashing this month, yet truly none of the proceeds benefit those affected by breast cancer. keep your eyes peeled babes 👁️👄👁️

💕 take moments to connect with yourself as a ✨human✨ + not only someone affected by this disease

💕no is a complete sentence 🙂‍↕️

💕surround yourself with community, whether that be other people affected by breast cancer, or simply people who know exactly how you want to be loved

happy breast cancer awareness month to those who celebrate, + as always, stage four needs more—fund breast cancer research!

Menopause 👏🏾 can 👏🏾 happen 👏🏾 in 👏🏾 your 👏🏾 twenties

For some women, menopause is caused by cancer treatment through chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or hormone therapy. And for some, that can mean entering menopause in our 20s or 30s, decades earlier than ever expected.

Menopause can happen by being:
🏥 Surgically induced
💉 Medically induced
💊 Treatment induced

I was medically induced into menopause at 26 as part of my treatment for ER-positive breast cancer.

Before my diagnosis, I had no idea that cancer and menopause could be so closely connected. I didn’t know that ovarian suppression could be used as part of breast cancer treatment. I didn’t know that chemotherapy could affect ovarian function. I didn’t know that removing the ovaries could cause immediate surgical menopause.

And I definitely didn’t know that I would be navigating hot flushes, brain fog, vaginal dryness, sleep disruption, changes to my mood, body, bladder before I’d even turned 30.

That’s why cancer-induced menopause, medical menopause, surgical menopause and early menopause need to be part of the wider menopause conversation.

There are far more young women living this reality than people realise.

For World Menopause and Cancer Awareness Day, I’m talking about the side of menopause that still gets left out of the conversation.

If we’re going to talk about menopause properly, we need to talk about all of it.

From an ‘Idea’… to Barbados. 💜
Nearly two years ago, this retreat was simply an idea and a suggestion.

And now, in just a few days, 20 Beautifully Chosen women will be travelling to Barbados for our very first Beautifully Chosen Women’s Retreat — Stepping Out of the Shadows, part of our Echoes of Wellbeing Series.

I am genuinely blown away.
Blown away by every YES. Every woman who trusted the vision. Every door GOD opened. And every person HE placed along the journey.

I am reminded once again that GOD’s ideas are so much bigger than anything I could ever imagine for myself. I have continued to pray the Prayer of Jabez, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory…” and I am watching GOD answer that prayer in ways I could never have orchestrated.

I am beyond grateful for every Beautifully Chosen woman who will be joining us, and so thankful for our three incredible speakers, Tiwa King, Mayowa Akinloya and Nellie Gbadebo, who have each said YES to bringing their gifts, wisdom, stories and hearts into this very special space.

In Barbados, we will rest, connect and renew and together, step out of the shadows while remaining safely under the shadow of the Almighty.

May this be the first of many. 🙏🏽

Why on EARTH haven’t I heard about this before???

Well tbh, we know why… technically I’m ahead of my time 🫠 but I follow mature women and health accounts that speak about menopause and I hadn’t seen much about it.

I think it’s brilliant and there should be WAY more awareness around it.

Medically and illness-induced menopause should definitely be part of these conversations because those experiences are very different contrary to what most may think.

The symptoms may overlap, but being thrown into menopause because of cancer treatment, surgery or another medical intervention can bring a completely different set of circumstances to navigate.

Seeing something like the M-Tick, helping women navigate products that may support them through menopause is SO refreshing.

Womanhood has many routes. None of them should leave you without the information you need to navigate your own body. Well done @genm_official 👏🏾👏🏾

Anyway, I’m M-Tick watching from now on ☺️
