That’s a wrap on @vamaritime conference 2026.

As a new NVOCC in the US market, I came with one goal. To learn about the market we’re trying to grow in.

Mission accomplished and so much more.

See you next year!

Funny how it works.

I passed the Customs Brokerage exam at the end of last year. Then came nine months of paperwork, applications, and back and forth to make it official. Honestly, through all of it, it felt like admin.

It didn’t hit me until I put this letter in a frame and held it up today in our office.

This is the letter from the CBSA confirming I’m now the Qualified Officer for Welke Customs & Logistics. In plain terms, I’m the licensed customs broker who holds the license on behalf of the company, the person accountable for our compliance with the CBSA.

Here’s why it means more than a piece of paper.

The first license holder at Welke was my grandfather, Rolf Welke. Then my uncle, Peter Welke. And now me, Jordan Welke. Three generations carrying the same responsibility.

A lot of things drive me to build this company. The discipline, the routines, the focus I’ve worked hard to develop. But one of the biggest drivers will always be pride in our family legacy. I know the sacrifice and hard work that came before me.

So this isn’t a finish line. It’s a responsibility to take Welke to the next level.

Very proud moment. 🇨🇦

Loonie Dogs Night at the Rogers Centre with our Toronto crew 🌭⚾

Last night we traded customs entries and freight bookings for $1 hot dogs and a Jays game. This team spends all year keeping our clients’ shipments moving across the border, so a night out together was well earned.

These are the people who pick up the phone when your container is held or a clearance question comes up. We think it matters that they actually like working together.

Real question: how many hot dogs is too many? Asking for a few teammates 👇

It was great to speak with Peter Welke, my uncle, one of our founders, and still the best reminder of why we do this the way we do.

His message to all of you is simple: thank you. To our customers, to our employees, to everyone who’s been part of the ride.

Enjoy the journey. 🚛💙

If you’re importing into Canada or the US, the hardest part isn’t moving the freight. It’s keeping up with everything around it.

Port congestion one week. New tariff lines the next. USMCA back in the headlines. And you’re expected to track all of it while actually running your business.

So we built a newsletter that pulls it into one place. Every issue is put together by the people who do this daily:
→ Bob Boss, VP of Logistics: close to 30 years, covering the US freight market
→ Simon Yu, Director of Air & Ocean: 10+ years in international forwarding
→ Keith Bajor, VP of Welke USA: licensed broker, nearly 20 years, on US customs
→ Pauline Gray, Manager of Customs Compliance & Regulatory Affairs: CCS, close to 30 years in brokerage

No fluff. Just what affects your shipments: where you’re overspending on duty, what could hold your freight at the border, what’s changing before it costs you.

Link in bio to subscribe. It’s on LinkedIn too.

Enjoy the journey.
