Australia is waiting...

Glancing at Australia 🇦🇺 (Part 2/2)

A delayed flight filled my mind
as I sat inside a designer store
with my newfound friends.

I was waiting for the arrival of my favorite person in the world
realizing that if I didn’t act now,
my big romantic plan would crumble.

In the end, it worked out.

I met up with my love.
Went to Gold Coast.
Went to Melbourne.

Met a kid with a lead foot.
Met a starstruck man
(who I suspect had feelings for a woman of the night).

But that stressful night
in the middle of Sydney CBD
taught me something.

I’m getting older.

My luck feels like it’s running out.
My determination fizzled—
replaced with a grumpy contempt
for the duct-taped “functioning” system
we all take part in.

I saw penguins.
Pet a kangaroo.
Leaped from heights I never dreamed of.

Australia was everything I wanted and more.

But I was not.

That image of the man
I wanted to be as a boy
blurs more each day
as I race to meet deadlines,
reply to meaningless emails,
and navigate an overly nuanced society
built on bootlicking and self-sacrifice.

Integrity feels like a dead horse.
Which is ironic,
considering I was awarded
“Employee of the Year” in 2025
for having such good “integrity.”

Since returning,
I found a new mentor
someone I look forward to seeing daily.

A new skill set.
Responsibility.
Independence.

It scares me.
It excites me.

I wondered if I had a mentor in Australia.

But maybe…
I was the mentor.

Dubbed the “urbex goat”
by a group of ladies I met
in an abandoned building by chance
now friends I’m lucky to have.

Maybe I didn’t go to Australia to learn.

Maybe I went to teach.

I’ll keep telling myself that
because ideally,
our lives mean something.

An Expedition to Sydney (Part 1)

Firstly, thank you to the friends I have made along the way.

Noah, I am eager to get kebabs with you at metro 101 in 20 years.

I began this journey with a dedicated no shave November, which ended a little late... just before christmas I decided to lose it. Aswell as a relapse of drinking and smoking had to go too.

But with what I lost, I filled with new knowledge and experience, as I babied a Honda cb125e back to health and road tripped across the blue mountains as a Christmas gift.

My experience in Sydney has been unique, I work a job that lets me meet the city I work in very closely. I see all kinds of walks of life and learn what makes them tick. It leaves me with a solid reflection of myself.

Zel, thank you for the great crane climb which brought me one of my favorite photos. Youre a brilliant human. Fight for what you know is right.

To the girls I met in Mittagong. Yall please hold onto each other. Your bond is admirable.

And I know you guys might miss it, but my hostel mates. Thanks for doing turkey day with me, made this lonely American feel at home again.

I explored this city. From the highest peaks. To the lowest depths. I know ive barely just touched the surface of what this place has to offer. This solo trip was interrupted by... my love! Who joined me on a trek out to The Surfers Paradise.

I was stuck in bliss for my blip of a visit, its hard now for me to lose my wanderlust as I dream of what my world could look like bouncing from city to city. This social media page has been such a beautiful opportunity to make this vision blossom into a possibility.
