Sometimes when you’re marketing a film festival, you find yourself bending into a pretzel trying to connect the dots and tell a good story. But with the 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, the connections are so organic you really couldn’t make them up.

In Dana Point, back in the late ’50s, John Severson was making surf films like 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳 (1958) and 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗶 (1959), traveling up and down the coast screening his movies to packed audiences.

While putting together his next film, 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳 𝗙𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 (1960), he came up with an idea for a little promotional booklet, which he laid out on the floor of his Dana Point apartment, printed 10,000 copies of, and called 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗿.

That little 36-page booklet eventually became 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗥 magazine, one of the most influential voices in surfing history.

So when we talk about the connection between Dana Point, surf filmmaking, and 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗥, we’re not stretching to find a story here. It’s literally where it all began, and we couldn’t be more excited to announce our new partnership with 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗥 and 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗩.

It’s been a week since @loggerheadclassic and I’m still buzzing!!
It was really special to be back. I first went to Loggerhead 5 years ago, just a week or so after I got my water housing. My buddy @narrrds called me up the day before and we just decided to drive down from WB…I think I had 2 water sessions under my belt at that point and I didn’t really know anybody except for @will_is_dakine , who introduced me to so many people that weekend. All of a sudden I found myself in the water with all sorts of incredibly good loggers, chasing a vision, doing something I had never envisioned myself doing but that immediately felt like what I needed to do. From there I quickly decided I’d go to @mexilogfest , which led me to Nicaragua and eventually to California. It’s still an adventure that’s unfolding every day and it’s really cool to have these snapshots to portray the journey.

Anyway, what a cool full circle moment. I feel so lucky to be in a position to create these photos in the first place, even luckier to call many of the people on the beach & in the lineup my friends. Of course a big ol’ thanks to @jquinny , who really knows how to throw a proper beach party. The surf world is all the better for it!

@loggerheadclassic was all time! Can’t wait for next year, the year after that, and after that, and so on! Thank you @jquinny for putting this amazing event on. Good times from sunrise to sundown!

Heading to FL I was not 100%. With a hole in my leg and body recovering from staph infection I was happy to show up and get wet!

So grateful for the time I got to spend with this amazing community as well as all the friends and family who came up from my home town! Love you all so much!
