Summer 1987. A local Connecticut paper ran a small piece on a 15-year-old named Dana Kaufman from Westbrook High School getting into the Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University. @wesleyan_ccy

That kid became Dana Ellyn — DC artist. 39 years later, living and working five blocks from the White House, with more than 4,500 original paintings sold directly to collectors, no gallery required.

Still painting. Still in DC.

Now this might be a bit late but I decided to do it anyways. My 4 week trip at Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University was a dream come true experience. It really expanded my knowledge of music and gave me some amazing and great friends. I truly appreciate the entire CCY Class of 2019 for making this experience unforgettable and memorable for me. I wanna thank my music teachers who really cooperated with all of the music students including myself and pushing us to be at our best and to step out of our comfort zone. The CCY experience taught me different styles of music I’ve never played before such as West African Drumming and its culture as well as the blues and combining all of those musical styles into modern day music. CCY really showed me that no matter how much of a good musician you are, you’re never finished learning. Everyone has something to teach you, whether it’s your parents, teachers, siblings, friends, and even the people that you don’t like. They all have something to offer and that’s the truth and reality for you.

CCY was absolutely amazing. I’ll never forget all the wonderful, beautiful and talented people that I’ve met. There were so many laughs, hugs, talks and tears that showed how much we all cared for each other. I wish that we had more time together but that doesn’t mean I will ever take the time we had for granted. You all have changed my life for the better and hope that we can all take over the world together. #ccy2018
