Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening of EXPERIENCE 72: SCRIPT, our new experience in partnership with Legacy West Media. Our community got to see new work in our space, and we’re grateful for every conversation and every visitor.

During the opening, Jim Carter, director of Legacy West Media, sat down with featured artist PRIME (@primek2s) to talk about his practice, his collaborative work with Big Sleeps (@bigsleeps), and his new collection with the Getty. We were also honored to have Monica Torres, Big Sleeps’ partner, represent him at the opening. She continues to support Big Sleeps’ recovery. The full conversation is now on ESMoA’s YouTube.

SCRIPT is on view until March 27, 2027.

A wonderful private afternoon at Leica Gallery LA listening to Chronicler Jim McHugh speak. There is something rare about hearing an artist who has spent decades looking so deeply at people and the world share the stories, instincts and experiences behind that extraordinary body of work. Few photographers have moved as fluidly across the art world itself — his imagery spans artists from James Turrell and Noah Purifoy to Allison Saar and contemporary graffiti artists, alongside acclaimed portrait series of Ed Ruscha and John Baldessari. And of course, there is his decades-long friendship with David Hockney — a bond now spanning nearly 40 years, born from a single phone call that led to one of the most famous photographs of his career! I could have listened much longer. Thank you, Paris Chong, for creating such a meaningful afternoon. 📷✨ 📷✨

Some lovely moments from our gallery opening earlier this month! Arthur Grace’s “WTF” and Jim McHugh’s “Still At It” are currently on display.

Be sure to visit before the show concludes at the end of October!

Congratulations Jim McHugh on your opening at Leica Gallery! It was great to see the juxtaposition of portraits you have crafted over the years of the many prominent artists here in Los Angeles, then and now.
