💙💛 WELCOME HOME, DR. CHUMLEY! 🏡🩺✨ There's something special about welcoming our alumni home, especially when they return to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals! 🎓 The Office of Alumni Engagement & University Experience had the wonderful pleasure of welcoming Dr. NaNotchka Chumley home to campus for a special Lunch & Learn, where our students had the opportunity to connect with her, hear about her professional journey, ask questions, and gain valuable insight from someone who once walked the same halls they do today! These are the moments we love most! Bringing our alumni and students together, creating meaningful conversations, and reminding our future healthcare professionals that the WesternU family is always here to support them. 💙 🌟 A special shoutout to Audrey Healey from the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) and Jocelyn Chow, WesternU COMP student leader, for partnering with our Office of Alumni Engagement & University Experience to make Dr. Chumley's homecoming possible! And of course, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Chumley for coming home, sharing her experiences, and investing her time in the next generation of WesternU professionals. As research continues to grow at Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP), recognition from national organizations continue to grow as well. COMP Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Office of Student Research Sébastien Fuchs, MD, PhD, is the first WesternU faculty member to be elected a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research (FAFMR). The FAFMR designation is the highest honor conferred by the AFMR and recognizes sustained contributions to research, leadership, service, and participation in the medical research community. Dr. Fuchs became a Fellow at a meeting held Sept. 25, 2026, one of three to earn this distinction in 2026. “I am deeply honored to be nominated as a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research,” Fuchs said. “This recognition reflects the importance I place on mentoring students, advancing meaningful research, and contributing to the broader scientific community. I am especially proud of helping students cultivate curiosity, confidence, and a lasting interest in research. I am grateful to the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and Dean Warren for the continued support of my efforts to engage students in scholarly work and to foster the next generation of clinician-scientists.” “Dr. Fuchs’ election as a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research is a distinguished and well-deserved honor. This recognition reflects his exceptional contributions to research, scholarship, and student mentorship, as well as his steadfast commitment to advancing scientific inquiry," said COMP Dean Lisa Warren, DO '01, MBA. "At COMP, we are deeply committed to fostering a culture of research excellence and critical thinking, and Dr. Fuchs’ achievement is a powerful testament to the impact of that commitment. We are extraordinarily proud of his accomplishments and grateful for the leadership and dedication he brings to our students, our College, and the University.” #WesternUProud #WesternUResearch 🔗 To read the full story, visit news.westernu.edu.
