Our September Health Career Ladder (HCL) was a beautiful community event. Children PreK - 12th grade received their white coats and began their annual pathway to health careers curriculum taught by our very own WesternU students! Over 800 Pomona and neighboring community members, including over 430 youth preK throught 12th attended the launch of HCL for the 2026-2027 academic year. Nearly 130 WesternU students volunteer through curriculum development and delivery at each monthly academy. All involved made this such an impactful day! Thank you to the ACE team for organizing such a meaningful community event. Can’t wait for next month!! by @westernucomp

As research continues to grow at Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP), recognition from national organizations continue to grow as well.

COMP Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Office of Student Research Sébastien Fuchs, MD, PhD, is the first WesternU faculty member to be elected a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research (FAFMR). The FAFMR designation is the highest honor conferred by the AFMR and recognizes sustained contributions to research, leadership, service, and participation in the medical research community. Dr. Fuchs became a Fellow at a meeting held Sept. 25, 2026, one of three to earn this distinction in 2026.

“I am deeply honored to be nominated as a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research,” Fuchs said. “This recognition reflects the importance I place on mentoring students, advancing meaningful research, and contributing to the broader scientific community. I am especially proud of helping students cultivate curiosity, confidence, and a lasting interest in research. I am grateful to the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and Dean Warren for the continued support of my efforts to engage students in scholarly work and to foster the next generation of clinician-scientists.”

“Dr. Fuchs’ election as a Fellow of the American Federation for Medical Research is a distinguished and well-deserved honor. This recognition reflects his exceptional contributions to research, scholarship, and student mentorship, as well as his steadfast commitment to advancing scientific inquiry," said COMP Dean Lisa Warren, DO '01, MBA. "At COMP, we are deeply committed to fostering a culture of research excellence and critical thinking, and Dr. Fuchs’ achievement is a powerful testament to the impact of that commitment. We are extraordinarily proud of his accomplishments and grateful for the leadership and dedication he brings to our students, our College, and the University.”

I am nominating An Tran for Student D.O. of the Month because he embodies the qualities of a true leader, mentor, and peer, both in and out of the classroom. ✨An served as a TA for our summer anatomy course, and his impact went far beyond simply reviewing material. He had a gift for breaking down complex anatomical concepts in ways that were clear, memorable, and genuinely helpful, especially during a course known for its intensity. He never made anyone feel behind or embarrassed for not understanding something right away. Instead, he created a space where we felt comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at our own pace. ✨ What truly sets An apart, though, is that his support didn’t end when the lab session did. He has remained consistently present and available to us outside of class, checking in, answering questions, and offering encouragement long after his official TA duties were fulfilled. That kind of follow-through is rare, and it speaks to his genuine investment in our success as future physicians, not just our performance in one course. ✨ Beyond academics, An consistently goes out of his way to make sure his peers have access to valuable opportunities, whether that’s sharing resources, connecting people with mentors, or simply making sure no one gets left out of something that could help them grow. He does this quietly and without expecting anything in return, which makes his generosity all the more meaningful. ✨ by @westernucomp

WELCOME HOME, DR. ROMERO! 🏡💙

What a special day at WesternU! We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Howard Romero, DO, COMP Class of 1992, back home to campus! 🎓✨

More than three decades after graduating from WesternU, Dr. Romero returned to where his journey began, and we couldn’t have been happier to have him back. His warmth, incredible energy, and love for WesternU made his visit that much more special. It’s always amazing to reconnect with alumni who continue to make us so proud!

Dr. Romero, thank you for spending time with us, sharing some laughs, reminiscing, and reminding us exactly why these alumni connections mean so much. 💙

A special thank you to Thomas Fox, Elly Khosravi, and Alexandra Tapia for helping make Dr. Romero’s visit such a warm and memorable welcome home.

No matter how many years go by or how far your journey takes you, WesternU will always be home. 🏡

Welcome home, Dr. Romero! We loved welcoming you back home! 💙
