I spent the weekend carving a phone number into a vase because I want you to use it.

Here’s the situation. Congress is passing this year’s defense bill, over a trillion dollars. Buried inside it is a provision most people have never heard of: Section 219 in the House, Section 1217 in the Senate. It would create a permanent program merging US and Israeli weapons development, including AI, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, and advanced weapons. Permanent means future presidents and future Congresses can’t easily undo it. It also mandates expanded intelligence sharing and would limit any president’s ability to scale that back, no matter what the human rights situation looks like.

The House wasn’t allowed to vote on the amendment to remove it. It passed by four votes. The Senate version is stalled right now, which means this is the moment calls actually matter.

Slide 6 is your script if you use the main switchboard number. Or, slide 8 is a super easy way: @5calls. Either one is two minutes. Please call, Senators work for us.

I was inspired by Mayor Mamdani’s July 4th address, delivered from George Washington’s desk. His words about who America belongs to sent me straight to the studio. What came out was a small spiral of history, hand-lettered, reflecting on how this country came to be and what it asks of us now. The rivers here still carry their first names, given by the Lenape, Lakota, Wabanaki, and Tongva, nations that did not vanish and are still here.

I chose a cracked platter for this piece. The flaw runs right through the word resistance, and that is the point. Resistance has never been unbroken. It splits, it scars, it holds anyway.

The only exit is resistance. Cracked, and still here.

“Nothing concedes power without a demand.”
Frederick Douglass

As we “celebrate” 250 years of America the great, I keep sitting with this quote.

We are watching a genocide happen in real time, in 4K. And still, somehow, it is easy to look away. It has always been easy to look away when the taking is done in the name of freedom. That is not new. That is the design.

Douglass knew this. He was not speaking abstractly, and neither am I. He understood that power does not hand itself over because it feels bad about what it’s done. It concedes when it is forced to.

I made this vase thinking about that. About what it means to hold history in your hands while it repeats itself in your feed. About what it means to keep making things, keep demanding, keep refusing to look away, even when looking away would be so much easier.

250 years. Still demanding. Still watching. Still here.

Having a little showing to celebrate summer and talk politics. Get out and VOTE now or on June 23. Remember, early voting is now open, but not on Monday, and if you need help with a voting plan, I've got you. And most importantly, if you don’t vote, you are not welcome to attend. Being nice is for baby bitches. Love you! (maybe)
