Hate AI? Love AI? Still suspicious of your Roomba? No matter where you lie on the robot spectrum, a story of Indian Uncles taking on AI will be the funniest, poignant, human-forward cinema you’ll see all year. As is our mission, Basement Video is thrilled to champion the young, visionary director @pranavbhasin and join ‘We Were Here’ as executive producers. Can’t wait to share this film produced by @yashgonsai and @sunshinemotionpictures pictures. Coming very soon.

iSAFF 2026: Excellence In Short Filmmaking - International

WINNER - KUCHAR
Funny, bold, beautifully shot and crafted, our winning film takes a subject rarely seen on screen and approaches it with remarkable warmth, honesty, and ease. The film is particularly meaningful in its representation of South Asian women confronting a taboo subject openly and without shame. Its confident pacing and strong narrative arc draw us into an adolescent experience that feels both deeply personal and universally recognizable. It reminds us that even our most awkward adolescent experiences can become opportunities for understanding, acceptance, and unexpected closeness.

iSAFF 2026: Excellence In Short Filmmaking - International

HONORABLE MENTION - AASMANI
Our first Honorable Mention is a film with gorgeous cinematography and terrific performances that create an intimate world where generations meet, challenging one another, and ultimately empowering each other. It features an inspired storytelling choice: giving an inanimate object a personality and emotional presence, transforming something as ordinary as a car into a character we come to care for deeply. The film takes its time, but that patience allows its message about letting go to be delivered with genuine heart, leaving us moved by the connections we make—and the things we learn to release.

iSAFF 2026: Excellence In Short Filmmaking - International

HONORABLE MENTION - WE WERE HERE
Our next Honorable Mention made the jury laugh from its opening frame. Bold, bitesize, and completely original, it brings a serious subject to life through a wonderfully unexpected lens: middle-aged men who have spent their lives working, striving, and defining themselves through ambition, only to suddenly confront what happens when that purpose is taken away. The filmmaker has an unmistakable voice and has delivered a left-of-center and playful film that knows exactly what it wants to say — and delivers it with style, confidence, and heart.

Another whirlwind experience reviewing @hollyshorts this year. 🖤

I was able to watch 284 of the 430 projects they showcased and, while I’m certain there are films that f*ck that I didn’t get a chance to see, these were my faves.
