🤯 Fake rescues for likes? Fake sanctuaries for money? Are people really capable of this?

Yes, through my own intuition with some videos or accounts, and now also highlighted by World Animal Protection, I’ve discovered that this is happening on a large scale. 🤳🏼🐈

ABUSE FOR LIKES
Cats, dogs, horses, cows, and wild animals like monkeys and bats are put in danger and abused to be ‘rescued’ on video. All to go viral, getting likes and/or to ask for donations.

🎥: Swipe for the (translated) video by @worldanimalprotectionnl for an explanation, how to recognize these videos and what to do if you spot one.

FAKE SANCTUARY ACCOUNTS
I’m also noticing an increase in dog sanctuary accounts with PayPal links in their bio, often reaching out through DM or directly asking for money. Many of these accounts are from Uganda or countries around, and their videos often show either a small number of the same dogs repeatedly OR entirely different dogs in different locations. The dogs look scared, have their ears back when filmed, and are often chained up.
❌: They especially DM vegan-oriented and pet-focused accounts, so there’s a good chance many of them have already reached out to yours or came up in your algorithm.

NOTHING NEW
The exploitation of donations and aid for vulnerable groups is nothing new. Just as orphanages, sham shelters for poor children and refugees once used people to attract funds, today we see similar tactics in animal videos and fake rescue accounts. While this issue with animals isn’t yet widely known, it’s time for that to change. ⛓️‍💥

Don’t trust an account or video? Report it immediately and avoid interaction. 🚫

‼️IMPORTANT- Please read ‼️Last weekend, after doing my January animal sanctuary donation to Katamba Benard of Shalom Innocent Souls and posting my receipt for transparency with you- I was approached by several animal rights activists who are knowledgeable of illegitimate shelters in Uganda.

In my years of animal advocacy I have never come across such an atrocity. I thought I had seen it all, until I was made aware of this. I have spent a week researching and talking with people who are exposing these false shelters. I have gone on legitimate websites which warn of such places.

Why is this not being spoken about on the news?

Dogs are being held hostage, starved on purpose to look skinny, and inflicting nightmarish life threatening inj**ies to create an emotional appeal and create an urgency for foreigners to donate. There are crocodile tears and also in Katamba’s case the involvement of a young man with a deformity, who goes by the name of Isaac. This is a perfect recipe into pulling at your heart strings.

These people are wealthy from the donations. None goes to vet bills or feeding. In fact, the total opposite as you see dogs deteriorating in their care. They do not use registered vets.

Real sanctuaries show you the improvement of a dog’s health by documenting trips to legitimate vet clinics and including receipts for transparency.

There are only 6 real legitimate sanctuaries that I have been made aware of by @wewontbescammed and other animal rights activists

These are @ceda.pups @uspca_kampala @cat_cradle_rescue_uganda @animalkindint @thebigfixuganda @uniquelypawslimited

The problem is that because the animals are well cared for and are well fed in the real sanctuaries , people do not donate as much as they do to the false ones!! Which is really sad.

I ask the @government_of_uganga and @policeug to take action against such cruel places.

I ask you to get in touch and voice your concern to them politely.

I ask for @peta @animal.rising @animaljusticeproject @thesavemovement @worldanimalnews_ @plantbasednews and other animal rights organisations, and activists to research and take action!

❗️@minniethecathub is a SCAM ❗️These are SOME the current and previous cat scams ran by Debbie Crankin. Before using her cats to scam, she was exposed for scamming 350k. You can find info about that on YouTube, TikTok, etc by searching “Debbie Crankin” - Somehow she has gotten away with fraudulently raising at least half a million dollars in the last couple years (probably more) as she has also collected donations via PayPal, Venmo, CA. Some older cat scams (Chester, Timothee) were posted on TikTok only and you can still see some of the old TikTok accounts. Minnie, Azul, Macaulay, Kelvin and Alex are/were all posted on Instagram and TikTok.

Here are some FAQs:

1. Does Debbie actually own the cats?
-Possibly. We are unsure if she currently has them but has had them at one point.

2. Do they have cancer?
-No (vet confirmed)

3. Why is she doing this?
-To make money. She using these fundraisers as a job instead of working.

4. Is she a minor like she keeps claiming?
-No, her birthday is 11/11/98

5. Why are you deadnaming her?
Because she uses her deadname on all the scam accounts and it’s the only way to prove who’s behind the scams. It’s a huge part of my proof that I cannot avoid.

6. They posted vet bills, isn’t that proof?
-No, those are fake. They contain a fake name and do not include the vet clinic. You can easily make a vet bill with templates online.

7. Have you reported her to the police?
- @lapdhq claims they need an address before investigating which we are working on. Her last known location is in West Hollywood in Los Angeles

8. Is there anything we can do?
-YES, report her to the FTC and Crime Stoppers for fraud, report the fundraiser and payment methods, and warn others!!
