Your first birthday without you here. Almost a year later and I’m still figuring out how to navigate that.

My father. My hero. My teacher. I’m still learning from you, even now.

I miss you more than I can express in words but I’m gonna find my peace, Inshallah. Rest well and know that I still got you. The struggle continues, and the promises I made still stand.

Some of the main topics of conversation between my father and me, aside from basketball #BallIsLife 😂, were self-discipline, community, and personal development.

What happened in the past.
What went right.
What went wrong.
Leadership criteria.
And what it would actually take to build something stronger moving forward.

Those conversations changed as I got older and gained enough experience to better understand what he was trying to impart.

One lesson has become especially clear:

We cannot build thriving communities without developing the builders first.

That’s why so much of what I’m working on these days centers around personal, physical, and economic growth.

Not because personal success is the end goal,

But because disciplined, well-rounded individuals are better equipped to build strong families, sustainable institutions, and thriving communities.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what that looks like in practice.

Now I’m ready to see it in action. Again, we are just getting started.

Starting to feel healthy and like myself again 🙏🏽 this year I told myself I’d make a concerted effort to be more involved in communities that matter to me, #Salute @dr.doitall305 for giving me the opportunity. Today he showed me what #DadeCountyStreetResponse @dadecsr @blackmenbuild and the #DoctorsWithinBorders initiative are all about and I’m blown away. These are orgs we have to support because they are doing the work instead of just talking about it. From food pantries to free healthcare these brothers and sisters embody the ethos of black power organizations of the past and I encourage you to get involved…but actions speak louder than words so I’ll go first Insha Allah. Follow these profiles and get in where you fit in though seriously...We all we got. Let’s do good work and give back/reach back where we can. #Bismillah 🤲🏽

Asalaam Alaikum community,

This Friday… we offer our FAREWELL SALAAM to a man who lived and died upon truth, dignity, and resistance.

Imam Jamil Al-Amin — H. Rap Brown — stood for us when it was dangerous. He spoke when silence was easy. He carried the struggle of a people with courage that cost him everything in this dunya… except his integrity.

A life of struggle.
A life of principle.
A life of sacrifice for Allah and for the oppressed.

This Friday after Jumuah, masjids across the United States will unite for a NATIONAL SALATUL JANAZAH GHAIB in his honor.

If your masjid is participating… TAG THEM.
If they aren’t yet… TAG THEM ANYWAY.
Let every community hear the call. Let every Imam know. Let every city stand up.

This is more than a prayer.
It is a testimony.
A legacy.
A lasting act of unity for a man who never stopped fighting for ours.
