Nishuane Group was proud to sponsor last weekend's 8th Annual @montclairbrew Oktoberfest, a celebration that brought together craft beer, live music, food, and community. As both a lover of craft beer and the Montclair business community, Nishuane Group's George @wheatle_ Williams is especially proud to support Montclair Brewery and its owners @montclairbrewery_denise and Leo Sawadogo. Their story is particularly meaningful to GWW, whose family sponsored the event in honor of his mother, who was Jamaican. And while she sadly never had the opportunity to visit, she was incredibly proud that an African and Jamaican-owned brewery existed right here in her hometown. 🇯🇲

A special shoutout also goes to @thebravitasgroup and its owner Bob Silver, friend of the firm and the event’s lead sponsor. Bob and the Bravitas team always demonstrate what it means to back the #Montclair community and we’re proud to join them in supporting Denise, Leo, and Montclair Brewery! Cheers to another great Oktoberfest! Prost! 🍻

And we're back with more of GWW's Library Corner! 📚

Expanding on our recent reflections on the importance of libraries, Nishuane Group Founder George @wheatle_ Williams recently had the opportunity to tour @yale’s Sterling Memorial Library (@yalelibrary) in New Haven ahead of the “Launch,” the Advanced Studio at @yalearchitecture. Guided by James Fullton III, the visit offered a deeper appreciation for libraries not simply as repositories of books, but as some of the most important civic and academic spaces we have access to.

Originally designed by architect James Gamble Rogers and opened in 1931, Sterling Memorial Library is celebrated for its extraordinary Gothic Revival architecture, remarkable craftsmanship, and more recently, its thoughtful restoration efforts that have carefully preserved the building’s historic character while adapting it for modern academic life.

From hidden architectural “easter eggs” woven throughout the building to the painstaking, context-sensitive restoration work completed over the years, the library stands as a testament to design excellence, stewardship, and the enduring importance of spaces dedicated to learning and community. 💜

Respecting our past and inspiring our future. 💜

Earlier this month, Nishuane Group Founding Principal George @wheatle_ Williams hosted a Community Involvement and Urban Planning Studio for the @montclairkappaleague alongside his fraternity brother and co-host, Lloyd Raheem, of the Montclair Alumni Chapter of @kapsi1911. 🎓 Held at the Nishuane Group office in Montclair on February 6th, the session brought together a group of accomplished young leaders who are already active in their schools and communities.

Using the @HOTWORX gym application before the @hobokennj Planning Board as a case study, participants reviewed fact sheets outlining the application, the role of the Planning Board, and the role of the public. With just 15 minutes of preparation, the Kappa Leaguers conducted a mock planning board hearing, demonstrating a strong grasp of civic engagement and the importance of community voice in shaping local decisions. 🙋🏾‍♂️

The experience underscored a powerful lesson about leadership and accountability, echoing the closing line of the poem "Invictus": "I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul."

Please listen. This is a meaningful video that could help us all learn.
I’m continuing to learn more all of the time.

@wheatle_ this makes me think of the exercise you went through to see what’s right/wrong/needs to be changed…

I feel like that could be a real valuable exercise for business owners, town, planners…

Tempus fugit! ⌛ As Nishuane Group celebrates two meaningful milestones, our 2007 founding and the 2012 opening of our first office, it feels like the perfect moment to reflect on our journey as a team. Founder George @wheatle_ Williams named the firm after his childhood neighborhood in Montclair, a place that represented the best parts of a community: its people, walkability, open spaces, neighborhood shops, and access to public transportation. 🚉

Soon after, Gerard Haizel and Michèle S. Delisfort joined George in his mission to build a diverse, talented, and community-focused professional planning practice in his hometown. After several years operating as a home-based business, the team opened its first office at BrassWorks on Grove on October 1, 2012, a milestone that marked a major step forward. Surrounded by fellow creatives and supported by the incredible @thebravitasgroup, Nishuane Group continued to grow and moved to a larger suite on September 1, 2020.

Today, the firm is home to 13 passionate professionals whose expertise spans international planning, academia, land use and redevelopment planning, and expert testimony. As Nishuane Group celebrates 18 years, George, Michèle, and Gerry express deep pride and gratitude for their journey thus far and excitement for the years ahead as they continue to revitalize communities and plan for strong, sustainable neighborhoods. 💪🏾 We're just getting started! 💜

Apologies in advance for the throwback photos! 😬

At Nishuane Group, we’re more than just a planning firm — we’re a family.

Joseph Daguman joined us as an intern back in 2012 when Nishuane Group was still a home-based operation. He quickly became one of our first and most valued team members. Though he left in 2017 to pursue his dream of working in California (currently thriving at the Planning Department of the @cityofeg), the bond never broke. 🤝🏾

GWW celebrated Big Joe Dagz’s wedding in Cali last November, and just this past week, Joe stopped by the office with his wife for a visit. Joe will forever be Nishuane Group Emeritus. 💜

If you've seen the "581 miles" @bucees billboard in New Jersey, you get it. Their billboards are iconic no matter where in the country you are. 🪧

Outdoor advertising signs in NJ are strictly regulated—no flashing, scrolling, or storytelling billboards allowed! 🚫 But during a recent Texas trip, Nishuane Group's George @wheatle_ Williams couldn’t help but admire @lamaradvertisingcompany's creative use of #billboards to build excitement for the next Buc-ee’s location through these hilarious storytelling ads.

While NJ keeps it simple, in some places, billboards are part of the adventure! Bet. 🎯

Also, we blame GWW for the image quality (he claims he was in his car on his way to a Buc-ee's). 🤷🏾‍♂️

Mentorship matters! And at Nishuane Group, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of urban planners. 👷🏾‍♂️🌠

Through GWW's collaboration with the @montclairalumni Chapter of @kapsi1911 and its Kappa League program, dedicated to coaching and mentoring young men in preparation for college, George has hosted an annual session designed to expose Kappa Leaguers to the planning profession.

Our interactive presentation features educational and humorous video clips and culminates in a mock hearing exercise—this year based on the Hoboken Food Pantry mixed-use application—where participants assume roles such as land use board members, applicant teams, and interested parties.

Although we haven't directly persuaded anyone to pursue planning (yet!), the experience consistently deepens their appreciation for community and civic engagement, highlighting the rewarding impact a career in planning can have. 💪🏾
