Today, we are shining the light on BLAZE alum Lu Chekowsky and the release of her first book “Don’t Buy What I’m Selling: On Breaking up with Advertising and Learning to Love My Whole, Fat Self!” Lu worked on this book as part of her Big Creative Goal in our BLAZE cohort and we are over the moon that it is finally out in the world! 💥 Lu says: “For years, I tried to disappear the truest parts of myself by selling my voice and heart to brands and corporations and pop stars-until I got so great at it, I no longer knew who I was, and almost deleted myself off the planet. I wrote this book for a lot of reasons, the biggest being so l could make sense of what happened, why I hated myself so much, and why I ate the way I ate. I wrote to make sense of my relationship to my body, to my work, to grief, to media and algorithms, to capitalism and sexism, to Healing (TM) and fatphobia, to celebrity, to work burnout, and our Robot Corporate Overlords (AMEN). I wrote “Don’t Buy What I’m Selling: On Breaking up with Advertising and Learning to Love My Whole, Fat Self” for me, but also wrote it for you, for the people who have ever felt strange and separate, shameful and alone for feeling too deeply, for hurting too much, and who have wondered if maybe there really is a product out there somewhere that can fix it all (I think we all know at this point, there isn’t).” 💥 “Don’t Buy What I’m Selling: On Breaking up with Advertising and Learning to Love My Whole, Fat Self” is published by Little Brown and you can get your copy today at your local bookstore. Follow along on Lu’s creative journey at @luchekowsky on Instagram. 💥 We love it, Lu! Keep going! 💥 Do you have a creative project that needs nurturing? Schedule a no-pressure call with Laura and Susan today via the link in our bio or at thesparkfile.com to find out more about BLAZE and other programming at The Spark File.  💥 We are ready for your next chapter. Isolation increases self-doubt.
 Self-doubt increases avoidance.
Avoidance quietly stalls creative work. 💥 When we feel alone, our nervous systems become more guarded. We get comfortable and stuck in our safety. 💥 Belonging fuels courage. Courage fuels creativity. When we feel supported, our nervous systems settle — and we’re more willing to take risks. That’s why finding the right creative community matters. A space where: * Your voice is heard * Your unfinished work is welcome * Your growth is supported * Your bravery is encouraged This is exactly what we’ll explore in our FREE live 90-minute workshop “Finding Your Creative Community” on Saturday, February 28, 1-2:30pm ET. Live on Zoom. It’s FREE, but you must RSVP either via our bio or thesparkfile.com. 💥 We’ll reflect on what you’ve experienced before, what you actually need now, and how to recognize the difference between healthy and draining creative spaces. 💥 You don’t need more willpower. You need the right community. 💥 Join us. 💥 📸 from our ILLUME showcases in NYC by photographer Melanie Einzig @melanie_einzig #thesparkfile #podcast #susanblackwell #lauracamien #creativitycoaching

I’ve never experienced anything quite like it - the safety, the kindness, the art, the joy. I’m so grateful we got to experience this and absolutely cannot wait for next year. ✨ I love you and you and you ✨
