We all have evil in our hearts. If you disagree, you don't know yourself well enough. If you don't know yourself well enough, you can be that evil inside without acknowledging it. As kids, because our default is compassion and honesty, its assumed that we aren't as capable of evil deeds. Its assumed that it is bad experiences that corrupt us and introduce evil to us. I think these assumptions paint a skewed picture of the nature of evil. Evil is a fact of the world. It is intertwined with suffering as a permanent fixture of reality. Any attempt to eradicate it is done in vain. To manage it, regulate it and balance it is the only hope we have. If we deny this truth, in seeking to fight evil, we will become it. Your righteousness will turn to corruption and the fruits of your labour will rot. As adults, it is not an absence of evil that makes our intention pure. The person who has not seen and embodied evil is not truly good but ignorant. That ignorance will collapse when confronted with the inescapable reality of evil.
