I planned for 50 women. 11 walked in. And I wouldn’t change a thing 🤍 Rise From the Root looked nothing like what I pictured. The week before, the numbers were low, I had to make a decision that affected everything, lost guests and 3/5 people who were working the event. I’m not going to pretend I handled it gracefully. I felt like a failure. I was discouraged, disappointed, and questioning everything. A couple of days before the event, I had to make a choice. I actively reframed my mind, every single day, until I walked into that room. I kept telling myself: whether it’s 5 women or 50, I’m going to show up with the intention to serve, to impact, and to build a meaningful community. Then on the day of, a hurricane watch kept even more people home. And I showed up anyway. Within minutes, everyone’s guard came down. We only got through four question cards because the conversations went deeper than any plan could. Women shared why they bet on themselves, how lonely building can feel, and what it really costs to go all in. Connections turned into opportunities right there at the table. Every voice was heard. Every woman felt seen. And sitting in a room full of Black and brown women building their dreams together is something I will never take lightly. And days later, women are still sharing the framework they took home, saying it was the reminder they needed. That’s the kind of impact I built this for.
