This is an immersive historical theme park in France, and it had one of the coolest live show entrances I’ve ever seen! Have you been to Puy de Fou? 🛡️

Forewarning: all the shows are in French, but that won’t really hinder you from enjoying the show!

Visiting Penang? 🌿 Here’s a little escape into nature to add to your list! 🇲🇾

Whenever I spot a botanical garden while vacationing, I HAVE to visit! Spend a quiet morning wandering around Penang Botanic Gardens, also known as the Waterfall Gardens. Established in 1884 on the site of an old granite quarry, the gardens sit in a lush valley beneath Penang Hill and cover around 29 hectares. 🌴

⛲️There’s so much to see, from colourful tropical flowers and ornamental fountains to lily ponds, winding streams, and huge rainforest trees. It feels like such a peaceful break from the busier parts of George Town!

My favorite section is definitely the Fragrant Garden, for obvious reasons given the name! 👃🏽🌸

I also spotted TONS of long-tailed macaques along the way 🐒 Luckily, they didn’t seem as curious about me as I was about them, which made trying my hand at some amateur wildlife photography easier. 🤭

📍 Penang Botanic Gardens, George Town, Penang, Malaysia
🎟️ Free admission

Definitely worth adding to your Penang itinerary if you like to bake a quiet nature break into your trip! 🌿

People often romanticize full-time travel 🤩 And it’s fabulous…until you’re months in and realize how EXHAUSTING it actually is! 🎒

The constant packing and unpacking. The (sometimes loud, smelly, or uncomfortable) hostels. Figuring out how to pay for public transportation. Still not fully understanding the menu even after looking at pictures and using a translator app.

Using Google Translate to do simple tasks like washing clothes or heating frozen dinner. Unlearning old customs to learn new ones and hoping not to accidentally offend the locals somehow. Converting currencies for the 10th time (because 500 Baht is NOT the same as 500 rupees!) Navigating unfamiliar cities (exciting as long as I’m not lugging my luggage around). And somehow making it to your next destination on time (or not)

And just when you finally get comfortable somewhere? Time to leave and start all over again 😅

Would I do it all over again? Absolutely, and recommend it to anyone who wants to do it! 🌍 You’ll learn so much about the world AND yourself, and if you’re lucky, you’ll also make genuine connections and core memories with others that’ll last a lifetime! But just a warning to be prepared to roll with the punches 😬

Would you or have you done a backpacking trip? Where and for how long? 👇🏽

I’ve stayed in over 35 hostels 🤯 It’s a great way to stretch your money, especially when backpacking (like I did for 9 months around Asia!)

But it’s often more than just a means to save money. Hostels are also a wonderful way to connect with other (likely solo) travelers, which can be especially important when you’re on an extended trip - far from people you love and even further distanced by the time zone change.

Most people I talk to are completely closed to the idea, and that’s fine! BUT I wanted to debunk the myths that ALL hostels are dirty, dingy, unsafe, loud…you get the picture(s) ✨ And yes, l’ve had my fair share of horror stories too…I’ll share them at a later date 🫣

But for the NICE ones, think swimming pools, billiard tables, morning yoga, cooking classes, bar crawls, private onsens, free bike rentals, rooftop views, and so much more! One hostel even offered ice baths and sound healing 🤗

Upon my review, the most fantastic hostels I’ve seen are definitely in Japan (but $$$) and Thailand!

Are you willing to try a hostel? 🗳️👇🏽 If you’ve done it, where did you stay, and how was the experience?

Because starting your morning right is essential, especially on vacation ☕️ For me, coffee isn’t just an energizing drink, it’s an experience! ✨ Anyone else?

Café hunting is one of my favorite pastimes, and Lyon has plenty to love! 🇫🇷 Not only for the aesthetics, but because the coffee was delightful!

In Lyon, so many cafés mix rustic, contemporary and classic bistro vibes! And best of all, asking for oatmilk is NOT frowned upon (I love the creaminess of oatmilk in my lattes and cappuccinos)

Here were my favorite spots in Lyon that you should try 👇🏽

1. Ballad Club Terreaux - coworking encouraged! It feels like stepping into a rustic contemporary loft apt with its stone walls, colorful couches, and eclectic decorative pieces.

2. Rakwé - I LOVED their oatmilk latte at the cart at Gare Lyon Part Dieu 🚅 and there’s an inviting shop on Rue Romarin as well, but the shop was closed for the week I tried to go :(

3. Bionda Caffè - This small yet romantic coffee bar brings real Italian coffee to Lyon plus creations with a twist, like the Sicilia I had - espresso topped with pistachio creme. The owner was super nice! :)

4. Le Perko Café - an adorable cozy teahouse with pale wood accents, indoor and outdoor seating, and pastries. The staff was super friendly as well!

5. Le GentleCat - Sip a coffee or one of their many teas, have a full lunch, or spend the day coworking among the adorable kitty residents! 🐈

6. Bulle Restaurant de Fourvière - ok it’s more of a restaurant and bar, but I sipped a mate with an extraordinary view of all of Lyon! A perfect spot to chill next to the Basilique Notre-Dame de Fouvière

7. Slake Terreaux - Coffee & Brunch DIPLOID - A rustic yet bright and inviting café, with warm stone walls, natural wood, and crisp white furniture that gives the space a fresh, airy feel.

Which are these are you eager to try? 🌯French food is so much more than croissants and baguettes 🇫🇷🥐 From classic French gastronomy to regional specialties and international flavors, France has one of the most impressive food scenes in the world!

And actually, some of my favorite meals weren’t even traditionally French, but they were a reflection of how diverse and global the country’s food culture has become.

So here’s everything I ate in France 👀 Swipe through to see what made the list, and check the caption on each slide for where to find it. And SAVE this if you’re planning your own food-filled trip!

My first taste of Senegalese cuisine was actually in Lyon! 🇸🇳 If you’re looking to venture beyond traditional French food, this is a great place to experience the rich flavors and spices of West Africa. You’ll want to try:

Poulet Yassa 🍋🧅🍗 Chicken marinated in lemon and spices, then cooked with tons of caramelized onions. Tangy, savory, and delicious!

Poulet Mafé 🍗🥜 Chicken in a rich, creamy peanut sauce and vegetables served with rice. SO comforting and flavorful!

A classic French dish made from the breast of the fattened Moulard duck 🦆 If you love duck like me, order the Magret de Canard - easily one of my favorite dishes I had in Lyon!

📍 Brasserie de la Mairie, Lyon

Chinese food is always a good idea, and I don’t just mean take-out 🥡 A long-standing Chinese canteen in the Latin Quarter of Paris known for serving traditional Cantonese and Hong Kong-style comfort food 🇨🇳 I went for the noodle soup with roast duck - rich, savory, and exactly what I needed to fuel my day of exploring 🍜

📍 Mirama, Paris

You can’t visit Bretagne without trying a galette! 🥞 These savory buckwheat crepes are a Bretagne classic, and La Rozell was a great place to experience this regional specia taken in France by @whimsicallybritt

In France, I ate everything from Chinese to Senegalese, fast food to a seafood buffet, sandwiches, pasta, and more!

TBH, half of this food ain’t even French food 😂 While I enjoy French restaurants, diversity in cuisine is my love language, even while traveling 😋 Anyway as a New Yorker, I now know that if I ever moved to France, I won’t be disappointed!

Want a complete list of the restaurants and dishes shown? Follow me because I’m posting that next! ✨

Revolutionary! 🙌🏽🍷😂 But in my 30+ years and 40+ countries traveled, I’ve actually never seen wine packaged like this - plastic cup included. Perfect on the go! Makes sense since drinking in public isn’t illegal in France (just drink responsibly and not in banned areas). In fact, wine is sold on the long distance trains (like the TGV) and you can even bring your own 😌

Have you seen wine packaged like this before? Where?

Is it cheating?! I wasn’t looking for it 👀 but when I stumbled upon this cat cafe while vacationing in France, I HAD to visit! 😻

This is the first cat cafe I’ve seen with full course meals, not just drinks or snacks! It’s also FREE to visit, unlike many cat cafes that charge by the hour (nothing wrong with that, since they don’t sell meals, and I’m happy to support the kitties either way!)

Would you add this to your list when visiting Lyon?
