A monthly microfiction contest celebrating the lighter, more peculiar side of storytelling. Yes, our alpaca travels by quill 🦙🪶

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Since whimsy was encouraged for this competition, I challenged myself to write a comedy. The prompts gave me D&D vibes, so I ventured into fantasy, which is another first for me!

Hope you enjoy the story! If you do (or don’t, I guess), feel free to like, comment, share, and all that good stuff! ❤️

RIGHTFUL HOME was written for the inaugural @whimsy.fiction flash fiction contest in July 2026. Fantastical whimsy isn’t my typical genre, so it was a really fun experiment!

However, this ended up being the first time I publicly shared work that explores identity and sense of self, which are themes that I now heavily integrate into my writing. Read a quick 300 words about Griff and Centaura at the link in my bio! 🦄🦅

Hi! Nice to meet you again! My name is Lucas, and this new account is dedicated to my creative writing projects. Here’s a little crash course on my published work from the past year.

In addition to the short stories shown here, I currently have a full-length novel complete and fighting for its life in the query trenches, plus two more on the way. My work explores identity, intimacy without sex, and the ways in which humans misunderstand each other. I can’t wait to share new projects! Thanks for following 🫶

HUMAN DISCLOSURE is a 2,500-word story I wrote for Writing Battle’s 2026 Verdant Owl professionally judged competition. It was my first ever writing contest, and HUMAN DISCLOSURE was the runner-up in its genre! I couldn’t believe how far it went despite being the first time I EVER shared my work publicly. It was such an honor and a huge confidence boost.

HUMAN DISCLOSURE is a work of speculative fiction that follows Rose’s last night on Earth, mere moments before a country-sized comet is destined to make impact with the planet resulting in the extinction of all life. But with the help of her AI Advisor, EMMA, Rose is faced with a decision that could save her life, but permanently scar her morality. #writingbattle

JUST DESSERTS is a silly little meta/fourth-wall-breaking I wrote for Writing Battle’s peer judged Verdant Raven. It placed within the top 16 of its genre and is the first of my short stories for which I also recorded an audio narration! #writingbattle

RIGHTFUL HOME was my first short story to explore identity and queerness. I’ve since made these topics a major theme in all of my upcoming work considering how cathartic they are to write about. RIGHTFUL HOME was written as part of Whimsy Fiction’s inaugural flash fiction contest in July 2026. #whimsyfiction #whimsyfictionchallenge

Another Whinsy submitted (just under the deadline this time!) who ever would have thought that wholesome horror would be so hard to write? @whimsy.fiction #writersofinstagram #writing #writingchallenge

I did it... just... with help. God, thank you so much to those who helped me wrangle this nonsense into something readable. You are the best.

Had a hard time bringing this one to fruition this month. BUT! I learned that whimsy can come from struggle.

October Whimsy submitted! And it's not even the last minute!

Any publications out there looking for 300-word whimsical pieces?
