SUBURB EATS — WEST & NORTH MELBOURNE 🌏

I’m joining these two suburbs together, and they might contain some of my highest scores so far. Maybe I’m biased because I’m kind of a local and don’t need to travel across Melbourne for them, but there is genuinely some high-quality food around this area.

You’ve got my favourite Korean fried chicken, a proper taste of Bali, modern Thai brunch, Korean BBQ, pub specials, bakeries, wine bars and even an HSP I willingly ate without being on a night out.

1. Bandak — 8.7/10
2. Warung Agus — 8.7/10
3. Three Crowns Hotel — 8.5/10
4. Chickorea — 8.2/10
5. Foodlab — 8.2/10
6. Udom House — 8/10
7. Gamja Hotteok — 8/10
8. Bread Club — 8/10
9. Manzé/Biore — 8/10
10. Yeonga/Jusik/The Galbi — 8/10
11. The Leveson — 8/10
12. Bear’s Wine Bar — 8/10
13. KL Bunga Raya — 8/10
14. El Sabor — 7.5/10
15. Le Bajo Milkbar — 7.5/10
16. Roslyn Thai Cafe — 7.5/10
17. Misty Pot — 7/10
18. 279 — 7/10
19. Whitebark Wine — 7/10
20. Fandango — 6.5/10

Bandak is the clearest winner from the Korean fried chicken places I’ve tried, while Warung Agus gives you genuinely flavour-packed Balinese food. Three Crowns also delivered an elite-tier $40 scotch fillet on Wednesday steak night—at least the one I received was.

Udom House takes Thai flavours into the Australian brunch scene without simply copying what you’d get in Thailand. Foodlab also deserves some love because I willingly went there sober just to eat an HSP and genuinely rated it.

Honourable mentions I couldn’t fit: Roasting Warehouse for brunch, Queensberry Street Co-op, North Melbourne Fish & Chips for the potato cake, Amiconi for Italian, Lu Ding Hotpot for chicken hotpot and Fat Andy’s for toasties.

Maybe I’m locally biased, but West and North Melbourne are eating pretty well.
