What a wonderful time we had last week spending time on the APY Lands with Judith Neilson @judithneilsonfoundation @whitehotrabbit Three extraordinary days of conversations about art, culture, leadership and our responsibility to create meaningful social impact. Judith Neilson’s leadership in arts and culture is an extraordinary story of vision, focus and determination. Through initiatives like White Rabbit Gallery and Dangrove, she has created a legacy that will inspire generations of artists and cultural leaders. Her philanthropic contribution globally and within Australia is also nothing short of inspiring. Judith, we knew a fair bit about your important work . What we didn’t know was just how funny, original and incredibly cool you would be! What a privilege and a joy to spend these days together. Thank you! It was an honour to welcome Judith Nelson and Steve Alderton to the Lands this week, spending time with our artists and sharing conversations about their work, stories and Country. As always, we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Cave Hill, with the fire going, bush tucker shared and roo tails cooking! Thank you both for your ongoing support and for taking the time to experience our beautiful Country with us.

As we look back on years of Esstudio memories, one thing becomes clearer than the hair, colour, and chaos… It was always about the connections. The friendships, the stories, the laughter, the trust — and a collection of memories that will stay with us far beyond the salon walls. What we created was never just a space for hair, but a space for people. And yes… if you arrived wearing great glasses or a good hat, Aleks probably borrowed them for a selfie 📸 (some traditions are too strong to break). But behind the fun, there’s something deeper we want to acknowledge. This journey was never built alone. It existed because of the people around it — those who shaped, supported, and believed in it at every stage. From our legal and financial teams, to our designers and pitch queen who turned ideas into something real and on-brand, to our backend team who kept everything running with care and purpose. To the friends who said “yes” before it all made sense, and helped bring the vision to life. And to Aleks — whose creativity and chaos has always sparked something bigger, opening doors for others to grow and connect. There were so many more people than we could ever fit into these pictures — every client, collaborator, and familiar face who passed through the doors and left a mark in their own way. At the heart of it all is connection. The kind that holds everything together. This was never just about building spaces or brands. It was about people, trust, growth, and shared purpose. To everyone who has been part of this story ……thank you. You helped shape something far more meaningful than we could have created alone.

⚫ BLACK MYTH: WHITE RABBIT GALLERY. Curated by David Williams, BLACK MYTH brings together a powerful collection of contemporary Chinese art, and documenting the exhibition became an exercise in looking beyond the artworks themselves. My approach was to photograph the work through the architecture of the gallery, using existing structures, thresholds, openings and lines to create frames within frames. Rather than treating each artwork as an isolated object, I wanted to show how the pieces occupy and interact with the space around them. I also wanted to humanise the documentation. Including visitors within the compositions gives scale, movement and context, while showing how the work is actually experienced rather than simply what it looks like on the wall. For this one, my favourite pocket-sized companion came along for the ride. The RICOH GR IIIx made moving through the gallery incredibly easy, allowing me to work quickly and discreetly while still having the control to build precise architectural compositions. One moment I could be carefully aligning a frame within a frame, and the next I could turn around and capture a fleeting interaction between a visitor and an artwork. Small camera. Big results. Just how I like it. Save this for inspiration if you're documenting a gallery, exhibition or creative space and want to approach it through the lens of an architectural photographer. #ricohgriiix #ricohgr #ricohmafia #ricohgrcommunity #grsnaps

Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now, a major exhibition that opened at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, New Zealand, on 2 May 2026 and runs through 23 August 2026. Boxing Man No. 7, 2019 is presented in the exhibition as part of @whiterabbitgallery collection. @aucklandartgallery presents Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now , a major survey of Chinese contemporary art. From daring artistic breakthroughs to today’s digitally native creators, Forever Tomorrow showcases how Chinese artists have grappled with China’s breathtaking transformation since the late 1970’s, producing work that remains visionary and influential today. The exhibition features 67 works by 42 artists and spans performance, photography, sculpture, installation, moving image and new media. Forever Tomorrow is a celebration of Chinese contemporary practice since Reform and Opening Up. A central component of the exhibition are works loaned from institutions including White Rabbit Gallery, M+ Museum, Pace Gallery, Tate, and the National Gallery of Australia. The exhibition has been curated by Hutch Wilco of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki,Hutch Wilco says: “Forever Tomorrow brings together powerful works that register lived experience — labour, migration, family, intimacy, and technology. Spanning generations, the exhibition reveals how artists have given form to the emotional and psychological dimensions of everyday life. Together, these works offer a compelling portrait of contemporary experience, inviting audiences to reflect on how these changes continue to shape individual lives and shared futures.”
