The Wild Pantry • Spring 2026 Thank you to those who joined us Saturday for an afternoon of foraging, learning, tasting, and sharing in community. Time well spent exploring the edible plants, mushrooms, and flavors emerging this season and deepening our relationship with the landscape around us. These gatherings continue to remind us how much nourishment, connection, and beauty exist when we slow down enough to notice what the season is offering. And thank you to Nathaniel Whitmore for sharing his profound knowledge. “Nathaniel Whitmore's vast knowledge of the environment and world around us represents a commitment to wisdom keeping that our modern world is in desperate need of. He doesn't just talk about plants- - he talks about healing from the inside out and about our direct relationship to and reliance on the earth. I was blown away by Nathaniel's wisdom and knowledge. Nathaniel explains in detail which part of the plant to eat and how and why and when and for what purpose, tying his physical knowledge in with diverse philosophical principals spanning ayurvedic, Chinese and modern scientific ideas about health and healing. I can't recommend Nathaniel Whitmore enough!! His expertise is no less than medicine for the whole world.” — Megan Best, Wild Pantry participant

The Wild Pantry May 16th 12-4pm The Wild Pantry invites participants to discover the abundance of edible plants that emerge each spring across fields, forests, and river edges. Together we’ll explore the edible flowers, greens, shoots, and mushrooms that make up the season’s wild pantry while learning how to identify these plants and understand their traditional uses as food. Guiding the experience is local herbalist and wildcrafter Nathaniel Whitmore, founder of the Delaware Highlands Mushroom Society. Drawing on decades of study in botany, mycology, and traditional plant knowledge, Nathaniel shares a deep understanding of the region’s wild foods and the seasonal rhythms that shape them. This gathering offers a chance to slow down, sharpen your eye for the edible landscape, and deepen your relationship with the plants that grow all around us-many of which have nourished people here for generations. This was Root & Remedy— a day well spent learning about plant medicine in a way that went deeper than explanations, recipes, or technique. This was about systems, harmony, balance, and philosophy. A day of hands-on learning from one of the region’s most seasoned practitioners. Participants made teas, decoctions, and tinctures, working directly with the plants and materials. Nathaniel brought root and bark medicine to life in a way that was thoughtful, comprehensive, and practical to work with.

I first met Nathaniel about 10 years ago. At that point, I didn’t know I would choose to live in the river valley full-time. I was hungry for more connection to nature—more fishing, deeper knowledge in forest ecology—after many years living in Brooklyn and then Long Island. Many have called him a mountain man. Raised on a local farm, he’s spent his lifetime getting to know this place—its plants, its mushrooms, and the rhythms that shape them. On April 11th, Nathaniel will be holding Root & Remedy, a hands-on workshop focused on working with roots and bark to create simple, traditional plant-based remedies, at Find the Midline. I feel deeply honored to host his knowledge here at my place and to share this opportunity to learn directly from someone so rooted in this landscape. Truly, he’s an incredible person to learn from—I wouldn’t miss this. Purchase link in bio or you can find more info at findthemidline.com

I’ll be cooking for you! 🍄🌱🫚🫛🍆🍚🍲 Come immerse yourself into the nature with us! Link in bio for more info! Throughout the weekend classes will focus on a number of herbs familiar to American and Chinese herbalism, especially those that grow wild and in our gardens. Plant walks will focus on botany and include discussion of medicinal uses, food uses, ecology, herbal science, and lore. Yin-Yang Theory and Five Element Theory are discussed throughout the weekend, especially as they relate to medicinal herbs and Chinese medicinal herbalism. Food is largely vegetarian with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients. Wild vegetables and, if available, wild mushrooms are spotlighted in the meals. Foods with "medicinal" uses are also a focus, and we will be discussing the properties of the food we eat and of cooking methods so that meals are just as much part of the educational experience as are classes and the experience of camping in the forest. We use high-quality natural ingredients. So, the weekend will be especially nourishing and cleansing with clean, wholesome ingredients. #herb #plantmedicine #chinese medicine #nature #naturesmedicine #herbalmedicine

Been a desire for over 15 years, finally starting to learn Sword mastery (Iaido) ❤️ My goal for now is to try not to cut myself with those very sharp samurai swords. A good complement to archery skills. Iaidō, abbreviated iai, is a Japanese martial art that emphasizes being aware and capable of quickly drawing the sword and responding to sudden attacks. Iaido encompasses hundreds of styles of swordsmanship, all of which subscribe to non-combative aims and purposes. Iaido is a reflection of the morals of the classical warrior and to build a spiritually harmonious person possessed of high intellect, sensitivity, and resolute will. 💚🦌💚
