🚐 Back home from being on the road!

@theologybeercamp 2026 may be over, but we’re still thinking about the good conversations, powerful talks, lovely beer, and wonderful people we met along the way. 🍻

We’re grateful Dr. Paul Hoard and Billie Hoard got to represent The Seattle School at a gathering full of big questions, meaningful connections, and conversations that continued long after the sessions ended. We had a wonderful time meeting new people, hearing powerful talks, and sharing in the joy of learning alongside one another.

We’re so glad The Seattle School was warmly received, but honestly, we may have appreciated being there even more.

And if there’s one thing we learned, it’s that Paul Hoard is the undisputed king of selfies. 🤳 Swipe through for some of the amazing people he connected with along the way!

Until next time, Theology Beer Camp!

This weekend at Theology Beer Camp in Kansas City I met a couple personal heroes— authors Kristin Kobes Du Mez (‘Jesus and John Wayne’) and Jemar Tisby (‘Color of Compromise’) — and made a bunch of new friends and enjoyed the unlimited beer that starts at 10:30 am. And got to watch the absolute legend Cornel West. @theologybeercamp

Tonight in Kansas City I’m headlining at the Rino at 7:30 if you’re around. @therinokc . I’m trying desperately to figure out how to combine my love of reading with my career of standup comedy if anybody has any ideas please come to that and tell me.
Imagine if everybody who saw this told one person in KC about my show tonight! We’d probably sell AT LEAST 2-3 more tickets total.

You do not have to become someone else to be worthy.

Not more successful.
Not more productive.
Not more impressive.
Not more “called.”

You are already lovable.
Already valuable.
Already worthy of community.

And maybe purpose isn’t waiting for you on the other side of achievement.

Maybe it’s already here.
In the life you’re living.
In the people around you.
In the small things that make you feel alive.

Because capitalism will always tell you that you need to become more before you can finally feel like enough.
What if that’s the lie?

Episode 376 is out now.

What did you love before somebody asked if you were good at it?

Before it had to be useful.
Or impressive.
Or profitable.

Maybe you drew.
Or danced.
Or made up stories.
Or built weird little things just because it was fun.

And then somewhere along the way, someone asked:
But can you make money doing that?

And maybe that was never the point.
Damon Garcia reminds us that some passions are allowed to simply make us feel alive.
No side hustle required.

Episode 376 is out now.

What if you don’t have one big, God-ordained calling you’re supposed to somehow figure out?

Honestly… what a relief.

This week Natalia talks with author, public theologian, and artist Damon Garcia about his new book, You Don’t Need a Calling: An Anti-Capitalist Manifesto for a Life of Purpose.

Because somewhere along the way, calling became a job.

Purpose became productivity.

Passion became a side hustle.

And if you couldn’t turn the thing you loved into something impressive—or profitable—we started wondering whether it counted at all.

Damon offers a different possibility:

Maybe you don’t need a calling.

Maybe you need community.

Maybe purpose has less to do with achieving something and more to do with noticing what makes you feel alive, connected, and present in the life you already have.

You were made for more than capitalism.

Episode 376: You Don’t Need a Calling w/Damon Garcia is out now.

As always, take what you like and leave the rest.

🎙️ The latest episode of This Is Not Church is here!

Nat and Jon sit down with Damon Garcia to talk about his book You Don’t Need a Calling: An Anti-Capitalist Manifesto for a Life of Purpose (Broadleaf Books).

We had a great conversation that covered everything from the Radical Jesus to what it might look like to live a life of purpose without feeling like you need to have a “calling” — and plenty of stops in between.

This is one of those conversations you’re not going to want to miss. Give it a listen wherever you get your podcasts! 🎧
