🚐 Back home from being on the road!

@theologybeercamp 2026 may be over, but we’re still thinking about the good conversations, powerful talks, lovely beer, and wonderful people we met along the way. 🍻

We’re grateful Dr. Paul Hoard and Billie Hoard got to represent The Seattle School at a gathering full of big questions, meaningful connections, and conversations that continued long after the sessions ended. We had a wonderful time meeting new people, hearing powerful talks, and sharing in the joy of learning alongside one another.

We’re so glad The Seattle School was warmly received, but honestly, we may have appreciated being there even more.

And if there’s one thing we learned, it’s that Paul Hoard is the undisputed king of selfies. 🤳 Swipe through for some of the amazing people he connected with along the way!

What if you don’t have one big, God-ordained calling you’re supposed to somehow figure out?

Honestly… what a relief.

This week Natalia talks with author, public theologian, and artist Damon Garcia about his new book, You Don’t Need a Calling: An Anti-Capitalist Manifesto for a Life of Purpose.

Because somewhere along the way, calling became a job.

Purpose became productivity.

Passion became a side hustle.

And if you couldn’t turn the thing you loved into something impressive—or profitable—we started wondering whether it counted at all.

Damon offers a different possibility:

Maybe you don’t need a calling.

Maybe you need community.

Maybe purpose has less to do with achieving something and more to do with noticing what makes you feel alive, connected, and present in the life you already have.

You were made for more than capitalism.

So my life has been upside down to say the least… and it’s been a month since I put out any content 🙃 please forgive me! But I will say… this conversation was well worth the wait! (Apologies to Damon for taking over a month to post it)

This week I was joined by the homie Damon Garcia to talk about his new book, “You Don’t Need A Calling: An Anti-Capitalist Manifesto For A Life On Purpose”.

Many of us grew up being taught that finding our “calling” is the key to a fulfilling life… Damon’s provocative new book flips that idea on its head. Instead of chasing some elusive purpose, he argues you are already enough as you are. In this fun and engaging conversation, Damon shares how embracing mortality, rejecting toxic spiritual messages, and rediscovering community can free you from the burdens of needing to be someone you’re not.

You’ll discover why the idea of a “divine plan” might be more harmful than helpful, and how the systems of oppression—like capitalism and colonialism—are connected to our misconceptions about purpose. Damon explores the history of Satan as a symbol of empire, showing how systemic injustice is rooted in the stories we tell about power, gods, and rebellion.
