POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Another successful ISA Rigger Certification, this time in Käppeli, just after Laax, so we were joined by many of the sport’s top athletes, including the champs LP 🇨🇳 and Ceci 🇩🇪
Happy to have instructed again yet again with Sarah 🇩🇪 and Tlaloc 🇲🇽 , two of the most experienced instructors, as well as with Fefi 🇦🇷 and Leo 🇦🇷 who will surely lead great Certifications in South America soon, and of course Jess 🇧🇪 , one of the kindest badass I’ve met in the “sport”.
The 16 participants all did great! I was particularly impressed with the Chinese crew who had the best attitude despite the language barrier! All in all, another lovely experience, 3 tough days of early starts, late finishes, improvisations, and good discussions.
Big thank you to the Gui, Leo, and John for the work in helping to make the Cert happen, whether by feeding the crew, helping with logistics, or documenting the event!

This week’s Fail Friday comes from @slacklifeofhugo, who got hit in the face by his leash after a leash fall while freestyling. Hugo was on a 70m dyneema line with bungee anchors, which store and release a lot of energy during bounces and leash falls. Thankfully, he was only hit by the rope and not the rings, and it missed his eyes, leaving him only with red marks and bruises on his skin.

Here are some of our key takeaways:

1. Use ISA Approved gear
ISA certified leash rings have a 150g weight limit and use at least 9mm rope (thinner ropes can cut or break fingers)

2. Pad your leash rings
The padding absorbs some of the energy in the event of direct contact with the rings, softening the impact and reducing risks of cuts and bruises.

3. Yosemite finish
Using a Yosemite finish on your figure-8 knot helps to prevent the loose tail of the leash from hitting you in the face and eyes.

4. Understand your risks…
Not all accidents are completely unavoidable and bungee anchors store and release a lot of energy back during bounces and leash falls.

5. Highline with a friend
In a worst case scenario where someone is knocked unconscious by their leash ring, hanging by the harness for extended periods of time can be life threatening. A friend can call for help, manage the situation, or perform a rescue.

Thank you Hugo for filling an accident report with the ISA and allowing us to share your story. Video credit: @jonaskonijnenberg

The iconic 90m line w @mianoblet and the @balancecommunity team.
There are very few lines that I reflect upon and would happily shoot for the rest of my life. This line never gets old, nor boring. There’s always a new and innovative way to capture this iconic line. It isn’t the longest or the shortest but this exposed line will always be my favourite.
To share the stoke with friends is so special, it can’t happen again soon enough 🤙🏽
