This PRIDE season, why not try something new, or refresh your favourite dance moves with an Intro to West Coast Swing!

SUNDAY August 2 evening

West Coast Swing (WCS) is a modern version of Swing dancing, done to contemporary and classic Pop, R&B, Funk, and Blues.
It's a social dance you do with a partner, BUT you don't need to BYO partner - it's common to show up solo and switch partners each song.
No traditional role requirement here - feel free to dance as a leader or a follower (and many learn to switch!)
It's like skiing: you don't need to be amazing in order to enjoy yourself - you just need to learn a few essential skills and the rules of the game!
We'll teach you everything you need to get your groove on, to any song, with any partner!

SUNDAY August 2 @DanceVancouverStudio
6-8pm Super fun crash course followed by
8-11pm WCS dance party - all welcome ($15 as usual if you are not taking the workshop)

And a special thank you to DJ JAmes for keeping the party going for hours!

Thank you to our teachers, SwingSoul directors, teaching assistants, and rotating DJs for an amazing year 💙

It takes a village to run classes, workshops, social dances, and special events on a weekly basis. We appreciate your efforts to help make SwingSoul the one stop shop for West Coast Swing in Vancouver.

Looking forward to what 2026 will bring!

Happy New Year everyone!

Dalynne is also known for her hilarious sense of humour and approachable teaching style 😄

Over the long weekend we celebrated PRIDE in our own way with a special beginner West Coast Swing bootcamp as well as a Grooving specialty class 🕺

In West Coast Swing, we have genderless roles in our dance, which means that anyone can dance in their preferred role. We believe that dance is for everyone and want people to feel able to move and express themselves how they wish.

Thank you to our instructors Dalynne and Tessa for teaching ❤️

If you are interested in more classes with us, join us at @dancevancouver on Saturdays and Sundays!

See you on the dance floor!

West Coast Swing is primarily an improv hobby, however, choreographed routines are an outstanding way to showcase the art and for dancers to challenge themselves at any level beyond beginner!

This is a group of our students that prepared this routine for an exhibition on a huge stage at Robson Square in Vancouver. For some, it was their first time ever performing!

How long does it actually take to learn choreography?

It depends!
-On your skill level
-On how familiar the movements are, and
-How polished you need it to be

This choreo journey took about a month from creation to performance. The dancers ranged from Novice to Advanced. They learned it in 2 hours, got 3 hours of coaching, and practiced independently for 3-6 hours.

Our goal was to create something that would challenge them *just enough* to be able to refine and really *own* their movement without stressing them out. This way they could really enjoy the process and be proud of their performance.

What do you think? Would you like to try this?
