💭 Some dreams start out feeling like a long shot.

For years, I had this little life goal of designing a toile pattern in the South of France. Not someday in a vague, “wouldn’t that be nice?” kind of way. I actually wanted to do it.

And now I’m here. At my artist residency at La Maison de Beaumont, drawing, designing, and turning that long-shot idea into something real.

This collection is a collaboration with Will Bosbyshell for the Roman Arts drawings, inspired by the colors, architecture, gardens, textures, and beauty I’m soaking up in France.

I think that’s what I love most about designing. A dream can start as a sketch in your head and eventually become something you can actually put on a wall, a chair, a curtain, a pillow.

🇫🇷 If you're longing for French-inspired fabrics and wallcoverings, comment FRANCE and I’ll send you the whole collection so you can start dreaming, too.

Then start turning those dreams into plans 🏘️✨

Thank you @lamaisondebeaumont for an incredible residency in the South of France. I’ve never been so productive while drinking red wine. Loved spending time with the wonderful artists and exploring the beautiful Provence. Super grateful for the experience and see you next time!

Sneaky little gestures of love are power, and what I’m considering for my practice right now.

It was thrilling dropping each original work of art into this sleepy village. I have a happy list, and a random act of kindness is high up on top and reverses a downhearted mindset.

Shout out to @remotelyjuliet for the inspiration and all my residency artist mates.

I’ve been pretending to understand French, and I have this weird feeling it’s gonna backfire.

The dim lights of the Independent Picture House’s Theatre 4 illuminated the audience as they shuffled into their seats. Yanira Castro found a spot near the back with her daughter.

“It’s just a great opportunity to see all the organizations and how they’re supporting climate justice and environmental justice and making sure that Charlotte stays at the forefront of protecting our planet,” Castro said.

Castro settled in for the show as the lights dimmed. Charlotte Earth Day founder Hardin Minor strode forward to welcome the Coastal Carolina Theatre Ensemble. The show began as a single light beamed down on CCU student Isaiah Cook.

He held up a sheet of folded cardboard. Offstage, the sound of a Mac booting up rang out, and Cook opened the prop with a cartoonish yawn. His face peeked through a cutout in the painted iPad, blinking sleepily at the audience.

Before the show, Cook had explained a little about his character during rehearsal.
“I play the iPad,” Cook said. “So, our protagonist is an iPad kid. She’s addicted. So, I’m the AI that’s distracting her from real human connection.”

Outside Theatre 4, nonprofits, city departments, and local artists set up spaces to host both art and information. Charlotte artists Wil and Maura Bosbyshellinstalled pieces in a hallway inside the Independent Picture House.
