May is the best time to visit Ireland and my favourite month in the garden.

24 years ago, when we shifted from one century to another, I joined my best friend Eden in Mount Desert Island to visit her family. Her aunt Mary was born in the hundreds year-old house where we stayed and it’s the place where Eden spent most of her summers since she was born, too. The house sat on the edge of a fjord with endless nature and wildlife, and I remember the evening of New Year’s Eve we all dressed up, ate lobster at a long table with candles, and at midnight burned our wishes under the moonlight in the frigid air. A few weeks ago, Eden drove with us back to where we were…some of her family was no longer there but it meant so much to share that journey and that place…full of history/memories for someone I love so much, with Kevin and Raffi. This summer has been full of (grateful) obligations and hustling and long overdue repairs to fix, but a road trip to Maine with the people you love the most to do anything + nothing, and just be in nature together felt like the biggest gift. On our last night at the house, we cooked a beautiful dinner and sat outside and wrote/burned wishes again…and it felt like everyone we loved was there with us, too. ❤️❤️❤️

The city of Angels…what a complicated relationship it’s been.

I spent 17 years here. I became an adult here or my idea of adult since I am arrested developmentally.

I met my husband here in the height of my immaturity. I had our son here at Cedars Sinai.

It has been 14 years since I left and I still miss the same things:

my friends, who all watched me grow up
my adopted mom AKA Nancy Kwan
K-Town
Fred Segal
Sunset Boulevard
The breeziness of sunny, Southern California.

Thank you, LA. I am glad I became an adult here.
