Can’t wait to finally go back to a very special place next week 🌊

Next weekend, @wildlifewithsam and I will be going back to Gibraltar Point NNR for a long weekend of birding and catching up with old friends we both used to work with daily for almost all of 2024!

This are just a few pictures to show how gorgeous this reserve is. Working here was one of the best times of my life and it really holds a special place in my heart.

Look out for the reels next weekend 📸💕

Long-tailed Shrike (Lanius schach)

There has been a milestone I've been chasing for the past few years, seeing my 400th species in the UK. After several species being lumped recently (Repolls, Green-winged Teal & Hooded Crow etc) my chance finally presented itself on the Gloucestershire-Oxfordshire border where this Shrike had been present for several days.

Long-tailed Shrikes are an Asian species, where they're commonly seen in India & SE Asian countries. This being the 3rd record here in the UK, making it an extremely rare sighting which makes it even sweeter that this species was my 400th for the UK 🤘.

Next big one is 450...

I finally made it to the Global Birdfair at Rutland Water this weekend, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! 🐦🌿

I was there on both Saturday and Sunday and had such a great time. There were loads of really interesting talks, plenty of inspiring people to listen to, and so many exhibitors doing brilliant work for wildlife and conservation.

Safe to say I may have been talked into a birding holiday… or two! 🤭 There was also some great food and drink to keep us going throughout the weekend.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped for a chat. It was lovely meeting so many like-minded people who are just as passionate about birds and wildlife.

Can’t wait to do it all again next year!🦉

Global Birdfair 2026 wrapped.

Just like that, the best wildlife fair is over. Despite the heat it was a blast once again.
First time being up on the main Osprey stage was daunting let alone the Bird Brain Mastermind-style quiz, although coming joint 2nd place wasn't expected!

Once again seeing so many familiar faces and catching up with people was the real highlight of the weekend, even though there was still some people I managed to miss!

Hearing the great work that @birdlife.international are doing with their partners in São Tomé and Príncipe was truly inspiring.

As ever the ZEISS stand was a real hub of excitement with the Apia 65 scope being the centre of attention along with our viewing gallery.

When I started birding, I always remembered the tale of “Hoopoe only turn up in the Vicar’s garden”. So I followed up on the vague Hoopoe report at Sedgeford by starting at the church. Happy it paid off!

Pectoral Sandpiper.

Recent post showed my personal favourite photos of this juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper, but this photo... is a bit different.

Showing how this bird was happily walking in-between us as we lay on the shoreline, content on feeding in the mud around.

Popping back to a repeat customer to smarten up the front garden path.

We’re really happy with the result which adds kerb appeal and gives the front of the property some added class.

On to the next one!
