First impressions from MOTHER-BURN in Düsseldorf at wildpalms gallery. Thank you to all that joined us for the opening yesterday and the inspirational conversations!! MOTHER-BURN Asef-Burckhardt OPENING: Dec 11, 6pm Performance 7pm ARTIST TALK AND FINISSAGE: with Isabelle Malz (@kunstsammlungnrw) Feb 21 @_wildpalms_ // “MOTHER-BURN” is the second video of a trilogy by the artist-couple Asef-Burckhardt. It was filmed on-site in the burned remains of a Redwood tree grove in the ecologically avantgarde architecture project “The Sea Ranch” in Northern California. Based on extensive periods of research there, Asef-Burckhardt have created videos, drawings, paintings, performance, sound, photographs and poems produced on site and in Berlin. Their multimedia project is continuously expanding and shown in changing settings at exhibition venues in different countries - now in Düsseldorf at wildpalms gallery. In her article in @textezurkunst, Sabeth Buchmann described the exhibition project as a mode of performative, archival speculation that resists closure, keeping historical narratives open and in motion with ecological, colonial, and aesthetic histories. “In this light, ‘MOTHER-BURN’ sparks precisely where objects are stripped of their own means.” // @marioasef @kirstinburckhardt @wildpalms_store @alexismeffert #artistcouple #collaboration #videoart #performanceart #painting

Liana of Life 59,4 x 84,1 cm Digital pigment print with 8 colors K3 Ultrachrome® on Epson Stylus Pro 11880 on Baryta 315 gm 2/5 @felipecastel high spectrum photography reveals an unseen dimension of the vegetal world. By using full spectrum cameras that capture ultraviolet and infrared light, his images expose the invisible signals and volatile particles plants emit—particularly at night. These spectral photographs are not only aesthetic explorations but part of a deeper ethnobotanical inquiry into how plants communicate and protect themselves. Taken in collaboration with Indigenous communities and ecologists, the works invite viewers into an expanded sensory field where ancestral knowledge and cutting-edge technology converge. @andreas_steinbrecher ’ exploration of strategies for representing the human figure continues with his exploitation of line and materials. Charcoal, vinyl, cotton canvases. The result is a dynamic, intensely appealing surface, reinforcing the haptic sensitivity achieved in his previous stage, when the paint spread over the entire support, creating a warm closeness. But now he introduces dynamism, showing that the warmth comes from the interaction of bodies, from the movement of the leg, the hand, the arm; the dance: human warmth expressed on the skin. @rachellibeskind “Notes on Coming and Going“: Developed over two years of research with Bruno Latour and first shown in the Critical Zones exhibition (2020), this project is an open-ended manifesto on our fractured relationship with what we call “Nature.” Each flag is a poetic signal—part ruin, part inheritance—using fragments from Emily Dickinson, Shakespeare, and others as rallying cries for a world in flux. These works mark the terrain we inhabit: unstable, shifting, disassociated. 🔸 Dancefloor by @andreas_steinbrecher 280 x 220 cm 2025 Acrylic and charcoal on cotton Photo credits @jmr_dokumentation In Dancefloor, Andreas Steinbrecher merges the human form with mechanical precision, crafting figures that seem both organic and engineered. The fluidity of his charcoal lines contrasts with the structured acrylic shapes, evoking movement, rhythm, and raw energy. The expansive composition invites the viewer into a space where bodies intertwine and dissolve. #AndreasSteinbrecher #ContemporaryArt

@andreas_steinbrecher Auto II charcoal and acrylic varnish on canvas 150 x 140 cm 2025 This pencil-on-canvas painting by Andreas Steinbrecher exhibits a complex interplay of mechanical forms and geometric abstraction, reminiscent of industrial design and machine aesthetics. The composition is dominated by overlapping, interlocking structures that suggest elements of automobiles—tires, axles, windows, and other mechanical parts—rendered in a highly stylized and almost Cubist manner. The shading and hatching techniques create depth and movement, while the crisp, deliberate lines reinforce the mechanical precision of the subject matter. #AndreasSteinbrecher #paintings #MachineAesthetic #IndustrialDesign #contemporaryart #Cubism #Duchamp #Leger

📢 Publication Announcement! We are honored to contribute to Colombian and Latin American art history with a seminal text for the German academy. (you can download the book in BIO “welcome wildpalms”) Jorge Sanguino’s essay ‘Artistic Collectives with Indigenous Communities: New Strategies in Contemporary Colombian Art’. (“Künstlerkollektive mit indigenen Gemeinschaften: Neue Strategien in der zeitgenössischen kolumbianischen Kunst”) is published in the book “Kritik Neo-Extraktivismus Gegenwartkunst” edited by Dr. Hauke Ohls and Prof. Dr. Birgit Mesrmann.(meson press) With a beautiful design, our thanks go to the editors for the care, curiosity, and work to bring this text to light. In this essay Sanguino explores the work of Juan Mayr and the Tairona Community, Millones de Maneras and the dynamics that Liliana Sanguino, Laura Laurens, Roxana Panchi, and the other members have achieved to integrate indigenous creators into the art and fashion system. I also highlight the indigenous collective Ñambi Rimai, the work of Felipe Castelblanco, and Ayenan, in an effort to consolidate the communication and empowerment of the pan-Amazonian communities in Putumayo, while caring for the precious natural resources of the area. #NewPublication #ArtandActivism #IndigenousArt #LatinAmericanArt #NeoExtractivism #contemporaryart Image credits: book cover Mashup von Fotos von @omid-roshan und nadiia- ploshchenko auf Unsplash 2.
