Barefoot, mud-caked, and beaming. Best day ever at Wild Roots Learning Center in Folsom

“No barefooted, tree climbing, frog holding, mud pie baking... moment with Mother Nature is ever wasted.” - Nicolette Sowder

Space Academy craft today: felted planets.

Blue for oceans. Green for land.

Hands were busy, minds were learning.

At Wild Roots, we don’t just learn together—we become family.

🌿 These connections, these friendships, these bonds forged through outdoor adventures, hands-on learning, and shared experiences are the heartbeat of everything we do. Wild, free, and forever grateful for this community. 💚✨

There’s two things I have wanted to bring back to Folsom… one, Big Dip (another day, another story) and The Great Snail Races. After the constant reminders and jokes…. And months of planning with the @cityoffolsom and @folsomcordova we made the races happen!

They were a huge hit and the kids (and adults) had an amazing time! @wildrootslearningcenter Snail Stable had the fastest time of the day at 1:43 minutes, but it was tired out by semi finals. And @_chlark was best dressed snail handler (obviously!!!) representing Wild Roots! The best part was the kids of Folsoms new love for snails and wanting to protect and live these gastropods!

I plan on continuing the work to have these return next year for another fun filled day of SLLLOOOOOWWWWW magic.

Happy May Day! We celebrated a day early, but the smell of fresh flowers filled the air, the spring sunshine was shining and our school coming together to celebrate was a wonderful way to invite spring in!

5 years! It seems surreal in so many ways, but these five years have been the most beautiful, surprising, and incredible in so many ways. As a founder, there were ups, downs and sometimes completely sideways things coming my way, but that just means deeper roots, more grounding and bigger dreams for the next five years. Let’s keep growing together!

Today I had the extreme pleasure of guiding a group of kids through their first butterfly pinning! I'm very fortunate to work at a place like @wildrootslearningcenter that allows such diverse forms of art.

Age 12 is the perfect age to begin working with delicate specimen. Even for those who weren't necessarily into the whole "touching bugs" thing, the dexterity practice and appreciation for nature is worth the time.

While small breaks and tears are sometimes part of the learning process it will be repairing those minor mistakes that result in fantastic problem solving and resiliency. Fantastic job, everyone!

Fresh flower art at Wild Roots! 🌺

Taylor pressed beautiful blooms into air dry clay, preserving nature’s beauty in a creative keepsake. From garden to art studio, our learners are discovering the magic all around them.
