What’s inside? This is probably one of the most common questions we get from potential subscribers. It is tough to answer because each seasons mag is its own beast. We can list out the titles of articles and gallery’s but that still seems too vague. Here are some of the folks that contributed to the most recent mag. Our resident cartoonists are Cy Whitling, and Mike “the dead dirtbag” Handzlik. Harry Bliss and the Steve Martin co-wrote a strip again. Megan Michelson writes for many outdoors publications and she graced us with another heartfelt reflection, this time about the legend himself ski photographer Hank de Vre. A new to us illustrator Tatyana Alanis has captivated us. Jeremy Jones is back with deep reflections. As is Will Grant. The Jaded Local is not going anywhere. And Mountain notes is a nod to our past reimagined by Maeve Dunigan. The mag always ends with poetry, respectively.

An underdog American team, most of whom had never played kok boru—or even ridden much—arrives in Kazakhstan to face off against the sport’s fiercest players. What unfolds is a chaotic, injury-filled, and oddly heartfelt crash course in one of the most brutal horseback games on Earth. Check out my magazine debut from behind the camera lens in the latest issue of Outside Magazine, where my talented friend, teammate, and manager Will Grant—Outside contributing writer and storyteller extraordinaire—takes you deep into the wild world of Kok Boru. Will recounts our venture with the US team at the World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan last September and brings it all to life through the team’s eyes. It’s been an absolute blast and privilege training and traveling with this crew of diverse, talented horsemen—guys who are all about honoring the sport the way it’s meant to be played, alongside athletes from Central Asia who’ve been keeping Kok Boru alive for over a thousand years. In the Outside piece, Will dives into the grit and glory of Kok Boru (aka Kok Par, aka Buzkashi), dropping you right into the mud, sweat, and madness of the Nomad Games. And how did I end up in the middle of all this? One random Facebook message from Garret Edington @ge247 about five years ago. Possibly the only reason I’m still glad to be on Facebook! Give it a read and learn more about the US Kok Boru Federation and the wildest sport you’ve (probably) never heard of. 🐎🔥 @willgrantofthewest @outsidemagazine @world_nomad_games @usa_nomadicsports @kilterpt #kokboru #kokpar #worldnomadgames #nomadicsports #physicaltherapy
