#Biennale, #Ceramics, #Korea, #Art, #Ceramique, @gyeonggi_ceramics_biennale

The 2026 edition of the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale, led by artistic director Daehyung Lee, under the curatorial theme Earth Makes, looks forward to converging artistic practices and cosmologies from different cultures to explore the medium’s past and future. ‘Earth Makes’ pulls the universal and eternal medium of clay and ceramics in every conceivable direction, using it as a lens to think through issues of climate change, labour, urbanisation, technology and creativity. Organised by the Korea Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF) since 2001, the Biennale returns from September 18 – November 1, 2026, featuring 28 teams (67 artists) from 14 countries across exhibitions in Icheon, Gwangju and Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. “Often The Works I Make Might Be Looking Like They Are Inviting You To Interact With Them – Sometimes I Interact With Them In The Performances, And They Become An Extension Of My Own Body.” 2/ William Cobbing @william.cobbing “Raw Clay Has An Abject Quality Of Being Simultaneously Attractive And Repulsive, Causing A Kind Of Sensory Conflict Or Confusion When Viewed Being Manipulated On Video.” 3/ Holly Hendry @h.ollyh.endry “The Cross Section Gives The Inside An Edge. It Is A Cut And Slice To Learn And Reveal.” 4/ Anna Perach @anna_perach “Myths, Whether National Or Personal, Can Be Almost Addictive; We As Collectives And Individuals Often Find Ourselves In Need Of Them As A Reference Point For Constructing Ourselves And Our Own Stories.” 5/ Vojtech Kovarik @vojtech_kovarik “My Human Body Study Has Degenerated Into A Kind Of Obsession With Absurdity.” 6/ Gideon Appah @appah_gideon “It’s Important To Make Paintings That You Love.” 7/ Lindsey Mendick @lindseymendick “I’ve Struggled With Depression And Anxiety Since I Was Around 13 Years Old So I Think That Feeling Of Being An Outsider, Of Being Leaky And Disgusting, Trapped And Claustrophobic Within My Own Body, Has Always Informed The Work.” 8/ Travis Fish @travis____fish “The sweater acts as the template. The structure of the sweater is the constant, but what’s happening on it could change every time. Whatever I see that would make a good painting is a go. It could be a wolf or a sunset or a pattern or text. People will put anything on a sweater. There is so much in sweaters, they say a lot.” 9/ Roxanne Jackson @roxannejackson_ “The Idea Of A Feminine Monster Is A Terrifying Thing.” 10/ Susanne Svantesson @sus___art “In My Work I Express A Need To Make Images In Which Women Are Subjects, Meaning That Their Personalities And Inner Life Stand Out As The Most Relevant. Many Of Them Relate To A Lightly Dissociative State Of Mind.” All images are courtesy of the artists and/or gallery. . - How far can clay shape itself? 🎥 William Cobbing presents large-scale clay sculptures that combine the materiality of clay with digital video. Working across raw clay, fired ceramics, glazing, performance, and video, he explores new possibilities where clay and digital media intersect. The artist sees clay as a material with its own agency. Rather than controlling its final form, he allows each work to emerge where his intention meets the forms created by the clay itself. “Gloopy,” “Slapstick,” and “Sensuous.” Encounter the work in your own way and discover new interpretations and sensations. ✨ 📅 Period | Sep 18 (Fri) – Nov 1 (Sun), 2026 🕙 Time | 10:00–18:00 📍 Venue | Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art (Icheon), Museum Greenyard 🎫 For more information and tickets, visit the link in bio. ✨ For the latest news and information about the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale 2026, visit our official website.
