POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Day two of Biddenden Flair Festival was as enjoyable as day one.

The morning started with Hazel Prior sharing her wonderful stories of people, and harps, and penguins, and otters with the accompaniment of her Celtic harp. She presented her stories eloquently and musically which is a first for me.

There was a lovely musical introduction by Tim Smith - on piano, and Ruth Roberts - on cello, before Tess Alps and Greg Mosse discussed their books, their writing and starting things late in life.

Two crime writers and one conversation followed and it was a brilliant discussion between Elly Griffiths and William Shaw.

The audience was enthralled by next the event which was Thomas Dixon who shared his wealth of knowledge on the history of emotions.

After that, I had the pleasure of speaking with Zoë Richards about her books, her writing, and her fascinating concept of the anatomy of a novel.

Tim Smith returned to his piano to demonstrate how music can evoke emotion, which was a lovely interlude and introduction to the musical menagerie of the festival.

The evening continued with more music and more emotional journeys.

In the next set, John Aldington enraptured the audience, especially Mrs Aldington, with his acoustic guitar and unique voice.

It was especially pleasant to hear medieval tales and legends through a brilliant musical performance by Mortlake who demonstrated their admirable talent with many instruments.

To end the festival, Vision Signing Choir showed us music and how it can elevate emotions so intrinsically. The audience was on their feet dancing and signing and laughing. Which was absolutely the perfect way to end a festival showcasing literature and the arts.

Not only was it a pleasure to capture it, it was a pleasure to help organise it. To be part of something so wonderful is truly amazing.

Do you go to festivals such as this. Share a memorable moment with me.

I fell down a bit in my reel-making duties at this year's @murderonefest because I failed to capture video evidence of many of the murdery faces that descended on Dun Laoghaire - but here's what *did* end up on my camera roll. Congrats to the entire @murderonefest team on another fabulous weekend of great chats and great reads. My personal highlights included getting to interrogate @janecaseyauthor and @andreamaraauthor, our traditional visit to Karen's Kitchen (brought to you by @karenperrywrites), @_antoniolanzetta_'s stories, our panel on first lines that wasn't really about first lines at all, seeing the FEAR anthology finally out in the world and rearranging all the chairs in the Royal Marine lobby two nights in a row.

Roll on M1 2027!

PS. Literally made this on the bus home

PPS. #notanad Insta, just a recap!

Finished the book. A very good read. Based in 2051 the climate changes we were told and warned about have happened. Global and local devastation has caused major issues. Mass migration, war, countries disappearing and massive land losses due to rising water levels. In Scotland things are so different

A body is discovered entombed in ice at the remote mountain top weather station that Addie set up and she goes to each week to check.

A leak at a Nuclear power station has been hushed up. A local journalist has the details of the secret government report that was hidden from the public. This is the start of a snowballing murder case, not straightforward by any means.

D.I.Cameron Brodie is dying, and holds dark family secrets. He volunteers to go to the mountain where the body needs to be retrieved and processed. But all is not what it seems. He has history.

A twisty story that is well plotted and takes you an a journey that is a bit frightening as you look into the future.

With Peter passing away recently it was a a fitting read to remember him by. I can remember and still hear his voice at the book launch he gave in London. A great writer who will be missed. His very last boom comes out in January 2027.

A crime fiction filled extravaganza yesterday at Fatal Shore, part of @shorehamwordfest . Thanks so much to all of the organisers, volunteers and of course the authors who took part- I had a brilliant day!

We were lucky enough to see the Queens of Crime, a Genre bending panel, Thrillers and Killers, some amazing debut novelists in Fresh Blood - and of course Rev Richard Coles had us in stitches with his stories!

I’ve come away with a new pile of highly recommended reading and lots more on the wishlist. An ideal Saturday all round.

Samhain is a time for thinking about other worlds and for telling each other stories that raise the hairs on the backs of necks.

The perfect time to join Folk Horror writer @william1shaw to delve into creating contemporary ghost stories.

Writer William Shaw will lead a few excercises finding ways to write – and think – about the things that makes our readers feel ill-at-ease, and work on finding ways that we can create short stories that explore this other, often darker, world.

What a week. From a literary festival, to a writing workshop, to a bookish quiz, to an author talk, and the. all the wonderful quiet moments in between.

I look back at this past week and wonder why I’m still reading the same books I started weeks ago. And then I realise it was busy and productive and restful. Hopefully I found a nice balance in the end.

Biddenden Flair was amazing!

I met so many wonderful authors.

Who talked about their books, and writing and characters and human stuff.

I also heard music played by talented people. And the psychology and history of emotions was quite fascinating.

A highlight for me was interviewing the lovely Zoë Richards. Whose books I love. If you haven’t read them you must!

And more music. I’ve learned there are many talented people where I live. Writers and musicians and artists too.

These two groups: Mortlake and Vision Signing Choir were phenomenal! The perfect performances to end the festival.

Zoe signed her books for me. She also gave me a notebook that she made herself. She’s very creative!

Zoë’s books and the notebook. Plant it gorgeous?

And Monday was a writing workshop with Greg Mosse. It was brilliant. I always find it interesting how writers write and how they mold the writing process so it works for their writing style. Greg left me with lots to think about.

And this week at the pond the ducks and the heron and the hens and even the kingfisher entertained and delighted me constantly.

I’m enjoying the weekly #oldskoolchallenges from @oldskoolchallengeclub they’re becoming a highlight of my week.

And the squirrels have been hugely entertaining as of late.

On Thursday I met some lovely people in Brighton for dinner and a bookish quiz. It was an amazing time.

I found a hardback copy of an all time favourite book. Ate delicious Mexican food. And I loved the bookish quiz. So well done!

On Friday I saw a new-to-me author. It was great to meet Stephanie. I’m looking forward to reading her latest book, Doing it for the Plot.

And a week isn’t special without to die for sunsets. How stunning are our skies?

Another brilliant week. Friends, family, food, books, authors, nature, and so mu
