One of my favorite things about Miami Beach’s iconic lifeguard stations is their incredible color. ❤️🧡💛💚💙

A lo largo de la costa de Miami Beach me propuse recorrer las torres más lindas y vibrantes de SOBE.

Desde South Point Park hasta la 85th-97thSt.

Solía hacerme fotos en ellas cuando entrenaba para correr, pero esta vez decidí caminar la playa de punta a punta con mi mamá y conocerlas una a una.

Estas torres son todo un patrimonio de identidad y cultura de SOBE. Diseñadas por el arquitecto William Lane e inspiradas en el Art Deco. Herencia de la ciudad de Miami. Cada torre cuenta la historia de esta energética ciudad. Antes de 1992 las torres construidas en madera, simples para cumplir una única función de seguridad fueron destruidas por el huracán Andrew, aquel 24 de Agosto oscuro para Miami y su gente. Arrasó con la costa de South beach. Se le delegó al Arq. Lane la tarea de diseñar 5 prototipos inicialmente y no fue sino 20 años después que diseño 6 nuevos prototipos para reemplazar las 36 viejas torres en (2015), a lo largo de la costa.

More iconic Miami Beach lifeguard stations!

In 2015, the architect @williamlanearchitect reimagined the 36 towers he originally designed in 1995, and said this:

“Much like the Moai figures on Easter Island, they are an expression for identity and culture on Miami Beach. Within the abstract detailing of the roof lines, contours, colors and materials, is the optimistic futurism of Art Deco, the local comfort of Cracker Style, and the brightness of South Florida’s tropical fauna. The towers are activators of public space and in this case of the beach itself. Unlike military watchtowers, they host lifeguards that will protect and serve. At the extreme, they can help save a life. Given the opportunity to revisit the towers, the new detailing pays close attention to environmental and programmatic design.” 🧡💚💕💛💙🌴😎

Miami’s lifeguard stands—originally designed by architect William Lane in 1995 after Hurricane Andrew—have become part of the visual language of the Magic City.

In 2015, the City of Miami Beach asked @williamlanearchitect to expand his original concept—designing new prototypes for 36 towers from South Pointe to 86th Street.

I’m always drawn to the bright, saturated colors and the graphic shapes set against the deep blue sky.

The City of Miami Beach recently celebrated the grand opening of the new 20-acre Bayshore Park, a vibrant space for the community to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors. O’Donnell & Naccarato provided structural design and special inspection services for key features, including the tennis and shade pavilions, elevated walkways, bridge, and amphitheater.

With its thoughtfully designed spaces and amenities, the park now serves as a welcoming destination for visitors of all ages.
