Chief Carver and Dust Maker at Wingert Guitars. Sometimes I take pictures. Bespoke handmade guitars for discerning players, especially fingerstyle.

Incredible weekend…absolutely incredible.
Thank you @johnsdetrick and the countless others who helped make this year’s @artisanguitarshow a success…demoing for @riviereguitars felt as natural and inspiring as one could ask for, I’ll say again—Judson Riviere is remarkably talented and humble. Definitely some thrilling guitars at this show and was happy to see a ton of them sell! Hopefully some video to come later. Many thanks to the lively audience who attended the performance, as well! Great fun.

🎸 The Guitars!!

We go to the @artisanguitarshow every year to see all the looths in attendance but there's a room full of incredible guitars. I try and get my hands on as many of them as I can.

Here were some of the highlights for me, I didn't get pictures of them all, there were just too many instruments in the room.

Slides:

1&2: @americanarchtop - I've known Dale and Tyler Unger for nearly 35, Sharon and I own 3 of their guitars, so we're a bit biased. Dale's archtops are among the finest on the planet. Plus, this was the only 7-string guitar in the entire show, so I immediately gravitated to it.

3: Ryan Thorel's @thorellguitars nylon string archtop was easily the standout guitar of the show. Ryan is an incredible archtop builder. The nylon string archtop/electric guitar has been an elusive enigma for guitar builders. Ryan may be the first one to have gotten it right. This guitar was amazing.

4: John Slobad's @circaguitars guitars were simply the best sounding, easiest playing, most consistent examples of absolute excellence in flat-top guitar building. I've wanted to meet John for a long time. His guitars are as impressive as he is.

5: Chris Jenkins' @lamehorseguitars - Chris and Robin Jenkins have recently become dear friends of Sharon and mine - I have wanted to play his guitars for a long time. It did not disappoint, this guitar was a masterpiece of design, functionality, tonality and playability and beauty.

6: Giuliano Nicoletti's @iuliusguitars Lirica model was an incredible sounding guitar. As if someone opened up the heavens and angels began to sing.

7: Playing Johnny Smith's D'Angelico was something no words can describe.

8: Kathy Wingert's @wingertguitars little round bodied flat top was an absolute delight to hear and play

9&10: Josh Reick's @j.rieck_lutherie massive sounding dreadnaught and funky electric guitars were equally impressive.

11: Aaron Wald's @waldguitars instruments continue to reach heights of excellence with every build, his guitars are as delightful to play as sound as beautiful as they look. Don't tell him I said that, it'll go right to his head.

Honored to support the Annual Artisan Guitar Show @artisanguitarshow in Harrisburg at the Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center! This is the ultimate event for guitar enthusiasts, featuring over 50 world-class luthiers, insightful master classes, and live performances!

My favorite part was working with the president of the local chapter of Guitars for Vets @guitarsforvets, a national 501(c)3 non-profit organization with more than 100 chapters in over 40 states, to further their service and opportunities with new local supporters including @amtshows. Its mission is to provide guitar lesson programs to Veterans living with the challenges of PTSD and other injuries. These guitar lessons offer a unique alternative to healing – they put the power of music in the hands of heroes.

In addition, I helped set up and tear down the event, handed out pamphlets, and was on duty to help where needed!

Thank you to Artisan Guitar Show founder @johnsdetrick!

Going to a guitar show to peddle my wares causes me extreme anxiety, if we are being totally honest. But when I go to one I’m reminded that isn’t really what it’s about.

It’s remarkable the instruments everyone manages to dream up then produce. I absolutely love how kind and uplifting each luthier is toward another. There seems to be no room in this field for judging and harsh competition which feels exceptionally special to me.

Thank you so much for inviting me @artisanguitarshow I feel honored to have been in that room with so many talented humans.

Finally back in the saddle, after my longest haitus (5 years!) since I started playing live! Videos will surface when I have the time.

With thanks to @kevinhardingmusic for hosting a wonderful day in Torbay back in July 2024, and encouraging me to get back on it as part of my placing second in the European Fingerstyle Guitar Festival competition. Also playing were @chriswoodsgrooveorchestra @sdeburca, Kevin himself, and @pete_izzard_gtr

I'm playing the wonderful Model E (German spruce/Braz rosewood) guitar Kathy Wingert @wingertguitars originally built for Callum MacMillan. Elixir Phosphor Bronze 12-56, K&K Pure Western Mini and SD MagMic -> Pendulum SPS1, Lexicon MPX550 reverb. More details in the link here https://danburne.com/gear/

I also couldn't resist the impulse to show off one of Nathan Ball's @thompsonandballguitars stunning creations, taking it for a purely acoustic spin. If I didn't already have such an embarrassment of guitars, he'd have been taking my money!

With thanks to Alex Hamer @alexandernhamer for the fab photos.

I'm very excited to be heading down to Harrisburg, PA next month for the @artisanguitarshow!

Honored to showcase the work of @noemiguitars and @wingertguitars in a Saturday performance, as well as to present for the Student Outreach breakfast. When I'm not doing that, I'll of course be hanging out with @jeffjewitt helping man his table.

It's going to be an amazing weekend! Put it on your calendars, grab your tickets, and let me know if you'll be going!

Tickets at artisanguitarshow.com.

Some scenes from the NAMM panel that I was grateful to have the opportunity to take part in last week. Thanks to all the amazing people who made it possible, and especially to the pioneering women luthiers who came before us and showed us it was possible!!! (And to two in particular who showed up to support us at NAMM!) ❤️🎸🙏🏼
