It was a privilege to be involved in the annual @winterchallengetas
Holding the microphone and sending positive vibes to the athletes was a personal buzz.
Such a unique event.
Is there any other multi-sport event where competitors kayak, road cycle, mountain bike and run over a glorious course on Tasmania’s east coast.

Tim Harmsen noticed that the Winter Challenge wasn’t accessible to everyone. Bikes, kayaks and outdoor equipment can be expensive, creating a barrier for people who might otherwise love to get involved.

So, he came up with a different idea — an event featuring something much more accessible: egg-and-spoon racing!

You get a “free” 5 minutes between the kayak and road bike legs at the @winterchallengetas. That’s even enough time to dry off with a towel 🙏

For Tim Harmsen, the Winter Challenge is about so much more than the race itself. It’s a community event powered by volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to make it happen.

Tim says the event simply wouldn’t exist without volunteers - and it’s the people behind the scenes, as much as those taking part, who create the sense of connection and community that makes the Winter Challenge so special.
