Mala Making Workshop 📿

Join us on Saturday August 29th at
5:30–6:30pm for a hands-on Mala Making Workshop led by Amy McKinnon

Part of our Free Yoga Week celebration! 🎉

$15 | All supplies included

What is a mala? 📿🙏
A mala is a strand of 108 beads (plus one larger "guru" bead) traditionally used in meditation and mindfulness practices across Hindu and Buddhist traditions for centuries.

The number 108 carries deep significance in yogic philosophy, showing up in sacred geometry, astronomy, and the count of energy lines said to converge at the heart center.

Why we use them in yoga & meditation:
🔸 Counting practice — Malas help track mantra repetitions or breath cycles during meditation, so your mind can stay present instead of counting
🔸 Tactile anchor — Moving bead to bead between your fingers gives your hands something grounding to do, helping settle a busy mind
🔸 Intention setting — Many practitioners choose stones or materials that reflect a personal intention — calm, clarity, strength, love — turning the mala into a wearable reminder
🔸 Ritual & focus — The repetitive motion of moving through the beads mirrors the rhythm of breath, making it a beautiful bridge between meditation and everyday life

Whether you're deepening an existing practice or just want to create something meaningful with your own hands, this workshop is for you.

Amy will guide you through the process of stringing and knotting your own mala to take home — no experience necessary! 🧡

✨ Space is limited — reserve your spot online today! ✨

I logged everything I ate and every workout for a full year!

Then I decided to stop.

To actually apply what I’d learned about myself and my body, and to practice being present

instead of tracking.

But I couldn’t have done that with confidence without the year behind it. The logging wasn’t the point. It was how I built a new foundation, a new trust with myself, a new normal.

I’ve broken habits I never thought I could. I’ve built a lifestyle I used to think only other people were worthy of.

This is only day one of not tracking, of living confidently in this new normal I built.
I don’t know exactly what it looks like yet.

But I know what it’s built on.
A year of data, yes, but more than that, a year of listening.

And that’s enough to walk into this next moment without a plan and trust myself anyway.

We all need places where we don’t have to have the answers. Where someone else holds the space. Where we get to exhale. Where we remember that receiving is just as important as giving. Thank you @beckymortgagepro for offering up your own leadership & wisdom so I could sit in that without having to be that for others.

oh hi there!

i am so giddy about this next chapter. these past four months have felt so magical and momentous.

the first time i stepped into a yoga room is something i won’t forget. the warmth, the welcome, the serenity. it was the first time in months that i didn’t have anxious thoughts rushing through my mind. after that first class, i knew yoga was going to become a significant part of my life.

when i saw the studio was offering a teacher training, i couldn’t say no. i felt pulled to it, like it was something i absolutely needed… and i did.

i’m here now, still learning, still growing, and so excited to continue in this beautiful practice.

follow along as i use this space to connect, share pieces of my yoga journey, post when and where i’ll be teaching, and create opportunities for in-person events and gatherings.

this journey has strengthened my mind more than I ever could have imagined. The first time I practiced yoga I was 13. 13 years later, here I am. I’d been drawn to this career for so long, yet it didn’t work out until the time was right. Yoga does not have to be spiritual, yet for me, it has brought me so much closer to God, taught me the importance of surrendering and trusting the moment, and how much strong community can carry you through the challenging times. We are all one, all connected, all just carrying each other home. 🤍 This is not the end. This is the beginning. 🦋✨🤍

I’m a yoga teacher!!! There’s no other group of people I’d rather have embarked on this journey with. They have taught me love, acceptance, peace, joy, support, the meaning of sangha, and have become my family. 🤍 I’m proud of them all and so grateful for my teachers who have inspired me and showed me the path. 💓

It started years ago when someone tried to threaten me by taking something that:

1. they never gave me
2. was never theirs to give or take
3. was mine all along

I still remember being in a Vinyasa class, moving through the flow, when I was suddenly overwhelmed with peace, love, and grace for myself. It was as if the words came through clear as day — telling me I was doing the right thing.

I cried as I felt myself reclaiming my peace, my version of spirituality, and trusting that somehow it would all work out.
That moment changed me.
It inspired me.

I wanted to create that same space for others — a place to heal, connect, and show up 100% as yourself without judgment or having to hide.

Time went on, things didn’t always line up, and some spaces never felt safe. Then last October, sitting on the beach with a good friend, yoga came up. She mentioned this studio, and when I looked into it, everything started falling into place.

And so it began.

I caught strep twice.
One time it turned into bronchitis. 🫠
My hormones were off again, leaving me with extreme fatigue those first couple months.

But through all of that, I met incredible humans who lifted me up, inspired me, and reminded me why I was here in the first place.

As a bonus, I found a studio and a yoga family that became a truly safe space — not only for me, but for my community too. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

There were many moments when anxiety got the best of me, but every single time, this community carried me through.

I did it.
I showed up.
And I’m still here.

I can’t thank everyone enough who was part of this journey, my amazing friends who constantly checked in and showed up. My instructors who pushed me, took the time to listen and inspired me constantly. They are amazing humans, could not love them more 🥹 My Dad, even though he isn’t technically here, has shown up so many times throughout my practice to remind me of who I am. my kids who helped me practice and most of all Jason, my number one fan, who stepped into every role possible so I could do this. 🫶🏽

This became more than I ever expected.

This is Yoga 🕉️

It’s been nearly 5 years- when I walked out of @deeprooteddreads loc parlor, if you will, with my hair wrapped around my lovely & temporary dreadlock extensions, Britt confidently said “let me know when you’re ready to go full head real dread, I’ll be here!”… I gave a smug giggle and was like “I usually never say never, but it will probably never happen…”

Well it has been a journey of re-wrapping, styling, re-tying, re-doing, taking them out, realizing I have zero desire to do my hair 😂, buying new sets, re-tying, styling, etc.

Welp… I am happy to say, I was wrong! She knew! I am now fully locked and loaded!! It’s like deciding to get a tattoo! They are permanent… full head, real dread!!
They are beautiful and I LOVE THEM!!

Thanks Britt!! 😘😘😘
