I just saw a quote in my uncle Bill’s post that made me laugh. “Men plan, the gods laugh.” Sometimes the gods humble you exactly when you need it. There are generations of support, mentorship, lineage and family in these pictures. I started the day tattooing one of my old high school students @witchbone who, after graduating found an apprenticeship and went on to be a successful tattooer and shop owner. While she deserves all the credit for her success, I’m proud to say I was a part of her journey. Pretty cool that she wanted to spend her birthday getting tattooed by this old man!

I ended it exhibiting with my daughter in a room filled with some of the people I love and respect the most in my life and two of my most cherished teachers. I’m grateful for all of you and so proud of you Violet! Thank you Carlos for this opportunity. I somehow did not get a pic of Carlos last night so the pics of him are from an art show at our gallery where I got to introduce him to @alternativewordsmith Ryan is another close friend an amazing author who used to set the curve in my art history classes.

Thank you to all of our amazing clients, both new and return, who showed up yesterday for our flash event!
We stopped the walk-ins at 8pm and finished up with our last client in line at 2:30am. What a day.
Words can’t express the gratitude we all have here at Blackthorne. The turn out for flash events can be unpredictable and we never really know what to expect. So we want to give a massive thank you to everyone for their patience and support yesterday!
It was great to meet so many new people and to see some familiar faces, and we hope to see you back in our chairs soon.
Make sure you go give our artists a follow and reach out to book more work! 🖤

At ten years sober today, here's a look at the first 5 years of my recovery. I was a struggling, single, full time father. I made many mistakes, but my recovery never allowed me to fall. Somehow I kept us alive.

Late nights at the studio are a whole vibe 🌙
Looking for a low sensory or private session (particularly lovely for ritual sigil tattoos)? Just let us know!

While we are an open concept layout and daytime appointments can be a lot of fun when the whole crew is in, we do have flexibility in our schedules and the ability to accommodate different preferences.
We get it, some tattoos can be extremely intimate or emotional. And sometimes you just want a chill atmosphere to calm your nerves.
Or maybe you’ve just had a long day/week/month/year/life and don’t want to deal with people. We see you. We got you.
