One year of Curated Therapy Collective.

I’ve been thinking about what I want to say about this milestone, and I keep coming back to why I started CTC in the first place.

I’ve spent years as a therapist watching people struggle to find the right care. Not because there weren’t talented clinicians out there, but because finding the right person is nuanced. It requires understanding the person behind the search, not just their diagnosis or zip code.

I knew we could do this differently.

So I built CTC around something that has always mattered deeply to me: professional expertise

This first year has taught me a lot about building. It has also challenged me to get clearer about what I believe.

I believe fit matters enormously in therapy.

I believe more options do not necessarily lead to better care.

I believe relationships and trust still matter, even as technology changes how we find almost everything.

And I believe there are some things we should be very careful not to optimize the humanity out of.

CTC has evolved over this year. So has our community. There have been moments of certainty, plenty of questions, and more learning than I could possibly fit into one post.

But the heart of it has stayed remarkably consistent.

One year in, I want CTC to be: a trusted, thoughtful, personalized place to start.

Some therapists come to this work because they know what it feels like to need a space that didn’t exist yet.

For this CTG clinician, that experience became part of the practice she built.

“I know what it’s like to carry big feelings without anywhere to put them. I’ve built my practice to be the room I wish I’d had.”

That perspective shows up in how she works: making space for the feelings that are hard to name, getting curious about the patterns underneath them, and helping clients feel deeply understood rather than simply “treated.”

Because sometimes the right therapeutic relationship starts with the feeling: finally, someone gets it.

The blue folder came home on Tuesday. By Wednesday I had been asked where it was.

Here is what I keep coming back to about September. The hard part was never the tasks. Anyone can pack a lunch. The load is being the person who holds the running list of who needs what, in what size, by Thursday, and knowing that if you put the list down, nobody else picks it up.

That job has no title and no end of shift. Nobody hands it to you. You just become the person who knows, and then everyone plans around the assumption that you always will.

If you are also managing a parent's refills and appointments and insurance calls, you are carrying a September too. Yours just didn't come with a supply list.

Watch for the tell. You are doing more and feeling worse. You dread Sunday evening. You are forgetting things you never forget, and snapping at people you would do anything for. That is not a character problem. That is bandwidth.

What helps is getting it out of your head and into a place the other adults in your life can actually see. Stop being the only person who knows.

And ask for support now, in September, instead of waiting for the version of you who cannot carry it in January.
