This Labor Day morning, I taught my first outdoor retreat immersive movement class with my Eastern Regional Evangelical Lutheran Synod church members. What a beautiful experience it was to practice our faith through postures of praise, lakeside, as the sun rose. After becoming a registered 200-hour yoga instructor, I formed my practice, @withhimimove (WHIM), knowing it didn’t fit the mold of traditional yoga nor traditional Christian worship. But to blend and neutralize yoga’s physicality with the spirituality of my faith has been my way of showing light in this world in a way that I believe honors the Word I follow. What a privilege it was to share my practice with people who took a chance on something new and embraced this method of exercise and praise. Wishing everyone a relaxing and rejuvenating Labor Day. It is a great feeling to focus on our stillness, instead of our labor. We are loved so deeply just for living and breathing as we are. Mathew 5:14-16

When you’re now among a cohort of impactful 200-hour-trained yoga instructors!!! 🎓 • • • I’ve practiced yoga for 13 years, and along with my Christian faith, yoga has carried me through life’s biggest challenges. Over time, it became more than a hobby—it became a calling. I gradually thought, why not teach it? But I pushed it off. I didn’t really know how or where to start; however, last year, a colleague of mine inspired me to focus on pursuing a certification after earning her own. In divine timing, days after speaking with her, I got an email from a studio I frequented for years — Y7. An opportunity to study presented itself, and I took it and applied. I eventually received a partial scholarship and made it one of my New Year’s resolutions to become a registered 200-hr yoga teacher. Before training, I sought guidance from the pastor who baptized me about navigating yoga as a Christian. He affirmed that while some would judge me, my faith and intentions mattered most, and he would not. I then understood that God would not either. Throughout training, I wrestled with discomfort in certain spiritual and philosophical aspects such as chakras, astrology, Ayurvedic discussion, and elemental rituals, but ultimately grew stronger in my faith, deepened my understanding of scripture, and became more receptive to holding space for others while standing firm in my beliefs. Despite differences in my cohort, I built lasting connections, and I 100% would not trade this experience of growing as a more compassionate, more discerning, more guided, and less judgmental human being and follower of Christ for the world. This yoga teacher training showed me a space that provided me with one of the greatest experiences of spiritual bravery of my life and I acknowledge I was in a safe space all along. I was always and will always be protected.  As we graduate tomorrow, I turn my focus to @withhimimove , a Christ-centered immersive movement practice blending poetic language with yoga asanas transformed into postures of praise to Jesus Christ. More details to come!
