An audiovisual journey through cities, communities, and music.

Social media is full of short videos, and they’re great. But sometimes, there’s nothing better than slowing down and really immersing yourself in music.

Sonic Journeys is a documentary project that brings you the stories of musicians and their music, told from the heart.

The films didn’t have Japanese subtitles. But after watching the episode made by LA-based filmmaker Nathan Pratts (@withnathanmp ), I was so moved by his work that I thought, “People in Japan absolutely need to see this!”

So I reached out directly to Nathan and bands, got their permission, and teamed up with my good friend Komo (@komo_r_09 )to add Japanese subtitles.

This time, we’ll be screening two special episodes that take you deep into the music scenes of Indonesia and Australia, complete with Japanese subtitles.

Screening Lineup

Episode 1: Thee Marloes @theemarloes

A soul trio that started out in a small room in Surabaya, Indonesia.

This documentary follows their journey as they talk about signing with their dream label, Big Crown Records, and their deep love for their hometown. The filmmaker traveled all the way from LA to tell their story.

Episode 2: Surprise Chef @surprisechef

A five-piece band (now a four-piece) at the heart of Melbourne’s jazz-funk scene.

From bakeries and local radio to their favorite neighborhood spots, this 48-minute documentary captures the atmosphere of the city where their music was born and the deep bonds and culture that shape their sound.

Come experience the atmosphere of these music scenes and discover what makes today’s soul and funk music so special.

Everyone is welcome. Come hang out and enjoy the films!

Did I make you look? My song, “More” is out now on bandcamp. :) link in you know where and also https://gardenbyeden.bandcamp.com/track/more 😍 This was the first time @maddoghenke and I got together in studio and we recorded this acoustic, layered ditty in one go. A year later I’m sharing it exactly as it came to be the day we made it—a short teaser for so much More to come. 💙 Today happens to be BandCamp Friday—100% of sales go to artists! Your support means the world. Thank you @withnathanmp and your keen eye for this beautiful, right-faucet-right-time cover art on film and @marleyvanpeebles for capturing my Poodle Dad reading moment to help me really lure em in with the hot shots. As for the song—it was written by me, recorded and mixed by @maddoghenke , produced by the brilliant aforementioned Madelyn Henke and Me, and mastered by the wonderful @galpetel ! Thank you for listening. I love you for that. 🥹💋❤️‍🔥
