ᢉ𐭩. the five people you meet in heaven ⨾ ★★★★★
by @mitchalbom

this book gave me so much clarity on the reason we exist, why certain events occur, and why we feel so much within our hearts.

we follow eddie, an elderly veteran who works a maintenance job at an amusement park. he dies while trying to save a young girl when a ride malfunctions. afterwards, he finds himself in heaven, where he meets five people who explain to him why things were the way they were during the course of his life.

hearing the stories and lessons shared from each person eddie met gave so much clarity to not just him, but also my overall outlook on life. at some points i’d close the book and just think about the statements made, applying it to my life and the way things are. albom did a beautiful job in showing how all of our lives are connected in a seamless manner. and the way everything came into full circle for eddie at the end was so refreshing to witness.

i’d go into more detail on the people he met, but this is a book i’d recommend others to go and read for themselves without knowing what to expect, and taking away a profound lesson after :) sometimes, it’s the people we least expect to play an integral part in shaping our lives 🌟

ᢉ𐭩. tales of the bleak night vol. 2 ⨾ ★★★★.5
by @eldryn_blackmoon

after i read the first volume of tales lf the bleak night, i texted the author, eldryn, my love for the anthology he had written! when he told me how my review motivated him to finish the second volume, i was excited for what’s to come! and let me tell you, volume 2 was just as stellar!!!

the way each story was written felt a little to real at times, having me read the book in the daytime in some moments due to the haunted settings in the stories. which overall shows just how good eldryn is at setting up the environment/feel of a story, it gave me literal chills. i also loved how each story was unique to one another, and as always had the most unexpected plot twists you’ll least expect! there’s something new to look forward to each chapter, which i admire

lastly, thank you to eldryn for providing me a free copy in exchange of an honest review. i cannot wait to see what more you’ll write!

– if you haven’t yet, please check out eldryn’s l socials! he’s currently providing free copies of his books for anyone interested, it is perfect for the halloween season🕷️🎃

🎄 My season: ultimately I am a Christmas fiend. I love buying a new bauble each year for the tree and baking a new recipe which does include cocktails. I mastered eggnog last year so this year am focusing my efforts on homemade baileys (wish me luck).

❤️ My most loved trope: I am partial to the chosen one in fantasy but better yet is when the "chosen one" isn't actually the person you think it is, it was a misdirect and is in fact the so called villain of the story. I haven't come across this often but when I do I just LOVE it, especially if it's unexpected.

💍 My love interest (Hero or Villain): Villain all the way! Sarcastic. Morally grey. Potentially Murderous. Now, that's the perfect bookish love interest.

Thank you @boo_kishbeans for the tag, anyone who happens across this is nominated to take part though I have tagged a few of you as well.

characters of royalty in books ꧁༺ ♛ ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

i absolutely love a book where i’m placed into a kingdom where royalty exists. from kings, to queens, to princesses and princes! when reading books existing in these worlds where it has a map, i am fully immersed in the story, visualizing the setting through the world building established by the writing, while also growing to love the characters 🌟

q: who’s your favorite disney princess?

mile high ⨾ ★★★★
by @liztomforde.author

finally getting into the windy city series! this book was a great introduction to the series, delving into the world of sports and the characters we meet :)

stevie and zanders’ have my entire heart! they both endured a lot in their lives, you could say their lives were parallel in a way. stevie struggling to feel confident in herself, and finding people that want to befriend her as a person and not solely to get closer to her brother. evan wanting to be able to express his true self to the hockey world and not have to play into an pr stunt. seeing how they naturally came to like each other beyond the surface of things was heartwarming. and it was so new to them, it scared them. despite the hurdles, their intuition always told them to find one another, no matter how long it took.

i really liked how the story not just focused on stevie and zanders’ relationship, but also their friends and family. all of which shaped who they are as people. even the bad ones, and ones that were nonexistent. i admired how the both of them came to closure on things, such as stevie with her mom, and going to family therapy with her to rebuild her relationship. same with evan, how he and his dad took a moment to talk the separation from his mom, and his reason for always working, which was to provide for evan and his sister.

overall, i loved how in depth liz tomforde went into with the characters’ stories. especially as someone living near the windy city chicago itself, all of it felt real and homey :) i cannot wait to continue the series!!

the two lives of lydia bird ⨾ ★★★★
by @josiesilverauthor

after the passing of her fiancé, freddie, lydia finds herself living two lives. while asleep, she dreams of a world where freddie didn’t die, still together with him. while awake, she faces reality where he is no longer present. as she yearns to live a life with freddie in her dreams, her present life is still calling to her.

this book did a beautiful job conveying how a loss of a loved one can impact one’s life significantly. it showed that grief comes in many ways; it is not a linear journey, rather one that has its ups, downs, and in between. there is no stage or particular order of how things happen. in the story, it presented the many ways lydia felt and coped with her feelings; dreaming about freddie, concealing her feelings, taking pills to sleep, getting agitated at things out of the norm, not feeling as present with her loved ones, losing sight of her purpose, and even traveling to another country to try to protect her life with freddie in her dreams. it also showed how when one is in grief, they can miss the things going on around them.

in the final dreams where freddie suddenly left in the middle of the honeymoon, i was upset initially, thinking why did silver write that, because it is out of his character. but then i realized, that was only the freddie in lydia’s dreams. it was a signal for her to not cling onto the past forever, but live her life and move forward. that is what freddie would’ve wanted for her. once lydia became more aware of the people who had her back, and took small steps in living her life to the fullest she can, her life began to brighten.

our grief can soften, but then become more loud at times. that’s how life is. when losing a loved one, it’s important not to solely hold onto the past and what ifs, but instead honor their memory, uphold what they stood for, and move forward in living your life.
