💷 Did you know more than half of UK adults have pretended to understand a financial term or conversation when they actually didn’t?

That statistic really stood out to me during a busy morning discussing financial confidence across UK radio and TV, including BBC and Sky Sports. 🎙️📺

There’s a clear confidence gap when it comes to money. More than a third of adults have avoided asking a financial question because they were worried about sounding stupid. 🤐

And perhaps unsurprisingly, 3 in 4 UK adults say they would use AI to get quick, plain-English answers to financial questions without judgement. 🤖💬

That’s where tools like Plum Plan come in. I had fun exploring Plum’s new conversational AI tool, which provides simple, step-by-step financial guidance based on an individual’s circumstances and goals. 📱💡

Technology is a game changer and we need to make people feel confident enough to ask the financial question in the first place. 🙋‍♂️

I spent too long feeling a little embarrassed whenever anyone I knew IRL discovered my corner of the internet.

Except it’s not cringe to have built something in my spare time, to film content for and be recognised by some of the banks and apps I use every single day, and to have a positive impact on people across the globe. 🥹 And if others think that’s cringe, then I’ll just double down.

I have loved renting and what its done for me mentally and physically so I thought it’d be good to drop some content on what helped me rent on a low salary in London.

£31k may not seem like a lot BUT if you know how to manage your money well I promise you can do a lot more with it than you think.

My salary did increase over time but thats what I initially started with and it didn’t change until like 5 months after.

I stopped trying to save for everything.

Yep.

Sounds backwards, doesn’t it?

But trying to put money into every single pot, every single month was making my budget harder than it needed to be.

Christmas.
Birthdays.
Car.
House.
Holiday.
Emergency fund.
Debt.
Future goals.
Fun.

ALL. THE. THINGS.

And suddenly I was spreading my money so thin that it felt like I wasn’t making progress anywhere.

So I’ve changed the system.

I still have my automated savings pots @withplum but each month I am reviewing how much of the money I save goes into each pot.

I look at what’s coming.

🎄 Christmas is coming? Christmas gets more.

🎂 Birthday coming up? Birthday gets more.

💳 Want to smash some debt? Debt gets more.

🚗 Car needs attention? Car gets more.

And if something isn’t a priority right now?

I pause it.

It doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned the goal.

It just means it isn’t this month’s job.

Because here’s what I’m learning:

You don’t need to fund every goal equally to be financially responsible.

You need to know what matters NOW.

The important boring stuff — emergencies, annual bills, maintenance — keeps ticking away.

The rest takes turns.

And honestly?

It feels SO much better.

Less pressure.
Less guilt.
Less “why can’t I afford everything?”

More:

“Right. What’s the priority this month?”

That’s the shift I’m making.

I’m not trying to build the perfect financial life overnight.

I’m trying to Break Free & Build one month at a time.

And that’s proving to be a much better strategy. 🖤
