Wildest custom work till now, really such a blessing I had to make @koenstaals 's dreambike come true! 🫶

And with that said I gotta give the credits to Koen for curating all the parts together and doing an excellent job on the instalment<3

There's too much to name, I'll try to answer yall questions in time:) One thing I'll write down for sure, that front rack is made by me and it's stainless steel brazed with bronze, yes.

Istraland speed demon 🦿🚲

Merida Silex 400 custom build: Mavic cosmic SL 65 mm wheels, 700x50 mm gravel king X1 and sram force mullet with a GX rear mech for max teeth range with the 40t chainring. Kept me at a solid pace around 20,5 km/h for the whole of @istraland.cc 2026

Tis the season for full mudguards 🌧 I really like these Curana C-Lite 26x60 mudguards, but I do a few things to make em better, and work with 2.8" tires. I bend the stays wider at the fender to clear the tire knobs, I flip the plastic clip around so the stays sit on the outside, and I add some bigol flaps from a 2mm thick sheet of rubber to save my feet, drivetrain, and back from getting soaked. Full coverage like this makes riding in wet weather so much more satisfying, makes ur drive train, dropper, lights etc last longer, and keeps you dry so you also can enjoy riding longer :) Only thing is risk of sticks getting stuck, but its not a big issue! These guards are super light weight, and the stays are stiff, so no rattling either. Also my take on them only being 60mm wide is, most of the water flings off the middle anyways, but wider would be ideal 🥸

Obligatory pre race bike pic. This time for the “Rigs of” @silkroadmountainrace - on @bikepackingcom soon I guess.

Still dusty from 9 days riding in Kyrgyzstan so far.

It’s the same Nordest Britango (with a fresh lick of paint and some new mounts and bosses thanks to @selwynbicycles in Samoens) that took me across the @transbalkanrace and @alpsdivide and (half of) @hellenicmountainrace. SID 120mm forks. Roval Traverse SL wheels. Maxxis forecaster / aspen tires (praying to the sidewall gods already 🙏). Not packing so light this time with an OMM elkhorn rack supporting a 15l dry bag and a couple of Ortleib mini panniers that may be ditched in Talas… tbc! Wit Slingers custom frame bag and Restrap top tube bag as per. A Straightcut bar roll holster (so solid) and an Acepac roll bag. Sleeping kit: an Aper Apex1 tent, warm Exped mat and Sea to Summit Spark -1c bag plus a SOL escape lite as my emergency blanket / extra warmth if required. Ravemen PR2400 front and some ravemen rear light (will rotate it when night falls, don’t worry)

2050km along, 35km up. Mega remote and high altitude. A bit scared 😳 (probably a good thing..?)

With 29+ Tires, a slack HT angle and 140mm of front suspension this MTB proofed itself a perfect Travel-Trail bike again on my past 6 days MTB Bikepacking tour from Cuneo to Manosque.

Thanks @witslingers for the great framebag which he traded me for me doing some reaming and facing stuff on a MTB frame of his.
.
All my sleeping gear and a clean set of clothes was in the handlebar bag.
Water, Snacks, Powerbank, toothbrush, headlamp, spare parts and tools found place in the framebag and the toolbox.

Having no saddle bag was great on the demanding, rocky, steep and fast downhills.
I found the weight distribution perfect. The weight at the handlebar was great for keeping the wheel down on steep climbs and it was stable enough on the descents.

Riding a MTB in MTB Terrain is the best as cycling could get!!!
As soon as we get home I treat you with 3 new rear wheel spokes. Promise.
