Tis the season for full mudguards 🌧 I really like these Curana C-Lite 26x60 mudguards, but I do a few things to make em better, and work with 2.8" tires. I bend the stays wider at the fender to clear the tire knobs, I flip the plastic clip around so the stays sit on the outside, and I add some bigol flaps from a 2mm thick sheet of rubber to save my feet, drivetrain, and back from getting soaked. Full coverage like this makes riding in wet weather so much more satisfying, makes ur drive train, dropper, lights etc last longer, and keeps you dry so you also can enjoy riding longer :) Only thing is risk of sticks getting stuck, but its not a big issue! These guards are super light weight, and the stays are stiff, so no rattling either. Also my take on them only being 60mm wide is, most of the water flings off the middle anyways, but wider would be ideal 🥸 by @witslingers

Tijmen of @witslingers doesn’t obsess over making the lightest bags. He’d rather make the ones that last.

For Adrian’s Tour Divide attempt, he built a custom luggage set around a Firefly ATB, using tough Halley Stevensons canvas and practical details designed for weeks on the bike.

By the time it reached BESPOKED Dresden, the bags were still carrying mud from New Mexico.

DC No. 065 - sixfifty mountainbum

These beautiful pictures from @spencerjharding from last years @bespoked.cc have been sitting on my harddrive since then.
I always wanted to make a "mountainbum" post but somehow never did it.
Today is the day.
.
I have been riding the "mountain bum" quite a bit this year. I absolutely love it.
It feels a tiny bit too much for the evening ride to the lake, it's great for day trips and I absolutely loved it on my 10days cyprus crossing tour in April.
.
Of all the bikes I built during the past 8 years - this is my favorite.
With all the little details, of course, It's also the bike I put the most workshop hours in.

The last bag out of my workshop! The ultimate culmination of 5 years of full-time bag making, and hopefully a trusty companion in a post-Wit Slingers life. This bag had been on my mind for ages, and parts of it accumulated over the last few months of sewing full-time. More features than you can shake a stick at, yet deceptively light.

It has truly been a blast and an honour to have made so many bags for all of you, and I want to thank everyone involved in Wit Slingers over the past years.

I’m now back to being a hobbyist. Hopefully, you’ll see a bag here every once in a while, but commercial activity has ceased entirely. A lot of my tools and machines have found a new home at @paprika.bags and @gramm_tourpacking, and I wholeheartedly recommend you give them a follow if you aren’t already. taken in Leipzig by @witslingers

ORDERS ARE STILL CLOSED INDEFINITELY

With that out of the way, I figured I’d give a little update. I’m still sewing, having a ton of fun, and making nice stuff. However, as bad as I feel about disappointing people reaching out, my order book remains firmly closed. I just figured most of you follow me just to see cool stuff, so I thought I’d see if I could maybe show a cool thing without being flooded with requests. So here we go:

Another @halleystevensons backpack, this one is living its best life in Berlin and hopefully many other places. I took a slightly different approach to the roll-top closure, allowing for more compression and a cleaner fold. If only there were a compact @fidlock.components with adjustability on both sides. The flat laptop pocket on the back makes another appearance, making it the perfect everyday, compact workhorse. And would you look at that shade of navy. Those dyers and finishers over in Dundee sure know what’s up. taken in Leipzig by @witslingers

Konstantin from @drustcycles has a way of building bikes that start with listening. This one is bike number three for Marm, developed very deliberately around his size, his riding style, and the non-negotiable requirement of bringing two dachshunds along. Off-the-shelf bikes were never really an option, so the result became a custom longtail that prioritises comfort, stability and load handling.

The long frame and upright position come without saddle drop, designed to extend range and make long days realistic rather than heroic. It’s set up for heavy (and precious!) cargo and proper overlanding, but still rides balanced and composed when fully loaded.

The build runs a Pinion gearbox, a 170 mm fork tuned for an upright position, and a belt-drive compatible frame. Couplers behind the seatpost allow the bike to be broken down for train travel, keeping it practical despite its size.

Finished with Wit Slingers bags in colours inspired by RVMBLE’s 10-year anniversary, the whole build feels considered and purposeful.

At this point, Marm might just be the business model.

This feature has been on my mind for a while, and I’m proud to have finally figured it out, but also a bit annoyed that I won’t get to use it much! This backpanel zipper pocket gives immediate access to your laptop without opening the main compartment. That comes in particularly handy on the train, but just as much when you have the main compartment filled with your lunch and sports gear. Anytime, really!

This backpack is filled to the brim with features: the stretch pocket out front offers a lot of quick-access capacity, and the full-height main compartment zipper provides wide access to everything inside. All of this in a lovely black on black on black colour scheme, using only the highest quality fabrics and hardware. A real treat!

Announcement!
I’m closing orders as of December 31st. At least for a while, maybe forever. I have some big life changes lined up, which require a workshop move and all that comes with it. If you’ve been on the fence about a bag for a while, this is your sign! I’m a never-say-never kinda gal, but I’m not counting on Wit Slingers resurfacing in its current form, so it might be now or never.

I will be sewing for most of January and February, but can only take orders until the end of the year for administrative reasons. So, be quick and secure a spot in the queue before it’s too late!

This is sad news in a way, but I’m confident it makes room for some positive changes. I’m sure I’ll have clearer feelings about this when I’ve finished my last order in a month or two, which will also inform future decisions. by @witslingers

When I realise I don’t have a mortgage despite being in my early thirties, I don’t feel like much of a millennial. But then, preferring photos to video doesn’t make me much of a Gen-Z’er either. So, a proud zillenial, I present my middling attempt at a reel. I got back from a week of hiking yesterday, and it's high time I caught up with emails! Here are a couple of snaps from the past week so that you can join me in some interspersed daydreaming.

We hiked part of the Lycian Way, around the Antalya region. Lots of water filtering, wild camping, and sea swimming. We even saw a sea turtle, a perfect way to spend a week! I put some more miles on my hiking pack, and I continue to be extremely happy with it, and maybe I should start selling it sometime soon. taken in Lycian Way by @witslingers
